Advise on Which Skimmer

I have a 180 SPS dominant with a heavy bioload. I would like to upgrade my skimmer, but don't know what to choose. Due to my sump size and stand height I can only upgrade with an external skimmer. My budget is $500. I am thinking about going with the DAS EX-2 or Bubble Magus BM260. But I know there are probably others that may be better....

Which external skimmer would best suit my tank and why?

Hoping you guys can point me in the right direction. Thank you!!!!

To stay under 500bux i'd say your best bet is the bm260 as its better than the das. If you bump up a bit you can get an external skimmer with a askoll on it, like the hurricone, super reef octopus or the swc askoll cone. Those will work much better, but you will pry be able to squeeze by with the bm if thats all the funds. They are nice skimmers.

Wait a month to upgrade and spend a tiny bit more?

You can get the MSX250A for $579. Much better choice than what you have listed.

cobbobby - can you add some links to the skimmers that you've listed? I've check out the SWC Askoll and it looks like an in sump skimmer. I need an external skimmer. Thanks!

AquaC EV240 it has a jhon geust fitting so you can hook up your calcium reactor to blow off the exess CO2 great feature and the thing pulls gunk out like crazy with a mag 18 pump.

I don't think most people realize you want an external skimmer. I am in the same boat and it really narrows the selection for some reason. I have a DAS EX1 right now, which is a good skimmer, but I have had it for a while now. I don't think any of the ones listed are external, are they???

This skimmer looks pretty good. It says EXT300, but I am not even sure if this 1 is external or not.

The new super reef octo or the hurricone cat1. The have more effiecient pumps. Skim well and will handle your load well. THe aquaC will use a energy hungry pump and is noisey IMO the DAS is flimsy and am not a fan after my das ex1. THe BM well is just not in the same league as the other two I mentioned. Not a bad skimmer just not up to par with the other two. Good luck with your choice. Heck even a vertex in 280 wouldnt be a bad choice.

LOL...After the first 2 posts, I said it again that I'm looking for an EXTERNAL skimmer.

The particular Octo that you've attached is an in sump.....
