afex's 135g Rimless Cube

the reactor looks nice. is it always the input to the reactor from the return pump? is this usually the way to plumb it in there?

i chose to tee off my return line so i didn't have an extra pump using electricity and adding heat.

the instructions with the unit expect you to plug in a powerhead to the input line.

yeah I thought it was a mj1200 for the dual reactor, do you think your return pump will be too much flow?

was it difficult to find the plumbing parts to achieve this? I wanted to do the same thing on my tank I am setting up over christmas. If you could give some details & maybe a few pics I would appreciate it.

the plumbing is basic, and i got everything at lowes.

the return is 1" pvc
the tee is 1" -> 1/2" thread
screwed into the tee is a 1/2" MPT -> 1/2" push fit adapter

originally (in my previous pictures) i had a 1/2" MPT -> 1/4" push fit adapter since i was expecting the reactor to use 1/4".

What is a MPT?

I am really dumb when it comes to all the DIY stuff. I don't know all the terms.

Did you make any other modifications to the BRS reactor?

MPT is Male Pipe Thread. That means you can see the threads on the outside of the pipe. FPT is Female Pipe Thread, and the threads are on the inside.

And if you put the two together with the MPT going into the FPT, you have plumbing. :D

Thats a fantastic setup. The slim lighting design really sets it off.

thanks :D

I Love MH too much to give up the shimmer. However, since my tank does need some supplemental lighting I think I am going to invest in some T-5's when I build my canopy.

Ha ha, thought you were going a different direction with this. Maybe bringing in some biology to the plumbing world? A little sex-ed?

As a fellow Bay-Area reefer, good to see this thread. I saw it on the BAR forum. Great job, keep it up!
