African Clarkii???

Got these guys last night. Sold to me as "African Clarkii".

Not sure what they are exactly. The 3rd band tapers up and goes across the entire length of the tail fin. Also, the white bands have a failry visible blue band on either side.

I searched the net for a long time, but I was not able to find anything like them. Closest was Alardi. Any thoughts?

What is the going rate for a pair?
I paid $40 for the pair. Fair price? Not that it matters, just curious.

I'd keep an eye on the white stuff that appears to be on the clowns. If it starts spreading, you may want to get them out and treat them before it's too late.

I have an allardi pair as well, and they came down with something that looks similar and ended up having to pull and treat them for 5 weeks in hyposalinity and malachite green. Fortunately they both pulled through and are incredibly healthy today.

I posted this somewhere else, but here's a before and after:

I love my pair. Great personality and when healthy are very hardy.

I have a similar clown. The LFS sold it to me as a Sebae Clown, said Clarkii was another name for it. Now I'm not sure if Clarkii and Sebae are the same or not, but I'm pretty sure I got an Alardii. It's got thin blue lines between the white and black-Beautiful fish, the pics don't do him justice..

This looks like a clarkii, not an allardi. From what I can see there's a full white stripe top to bottom at the tail of yours. An allardi doesn't have that.

location would be the biggest indicator. allardis only come from africa. and while clarkii clowns are frequently called sebae clowns, sebae clowns are a different species all together. you have a clarkii.

You have allardis for sure. The top photo is the most indicative.
The front stripe tends to be wider than the middle stripe with allardis and the front stripe tends to be a little wider on top.
The other one is a juvenile allardi. Juveniles do look a lot more like your typical clarkii clown but you will notice the white coloration on the top of the caudal fin. Juvenile clarki's don't have this.

40 bucks for the pair is one heck of a good time deal. I would almost say it is a once in a lifetime deal. I would keep going to this store if there prices are this low.

I would be a bit nervous about brook from the looks of the male A. allardi. If he stops eating and breathing rate increases you should treat both accordingly (I personally would start treating now). Do you know how long the lfs had them?

As for price, you basically got 2 for 1 since they go for about $40 each these days, they're just much more common then a few years ago.

And Stevecon, yours is a black variant A. clarkii. To tell the difference, it's all in the first bar and tail.
