African Flamebcak Angelfish - Reef Safe??

Hi Everyone,

Doe anyone know how "Reef Safe" African Flameback Angelfish are? I keep Zoa's, Mushrooms, Duncan's, Colt, Toadstool Leather corals in my tank. I also have CUC including conch, snails and shrimps.

I've seen a lot of them returned to the fish store because they were causing trouble in reef tanks. I never asked what type of coral they were attacking.

I've had one in my mostly SPS mixed reef for several years. It has never bothered any coral of any type. New fish additions, however, will be harassed for a day or so. Lot's of personality and otherwise a model citizen of my reef.

+1...mine is exactly the same...

The last one I had (in a 150 gal mixed reef) would nip here & there, but it wasn't too bad. The main problem I had with him was the aggression towards the 5 other dwarf angels.

in that case I may consider getting one for my 29g when my Baganni Cardinal dies. I heard the have short lifespans of about 2-3 yrs.

I found dwarf angels to be less of a menace when kept in pairs or a harem group. In my experience, single ones will either start harassing other fish or become psychotic. The latter is especially the case with C. argi.
The ones I kept in pairs or harem groups behaved natural and were way too busy with themselves to bother other fish.
If I would ever consider getting dwarf angels again I would get them either as pairs or in a harem group.

If you put it in such a small tank it had better be the last fish you plan on adding. It is going to own the entire tank. And FWIW - mine is at least 4 years old and going strong.

Im not sure how long they live but I was visiting family down in Jacksonville FL and a LFS down there had a massive one that was at least 3.5" in their display. I forgot the name of the store but had no idea they got that big. It had to be at least a few years old.

Had one in my previous tank. Awesome fish, but it kept nipping at most of my sps. It was not a lot so I really don't think it did "growth reducing damage", but polyp extension during the day was reduced / non existent on some of the corals.
