AgentSPS' 300 Gallon ***DreamReef***

I know about that. When I started up this tank, I also lost a maculiceps and a "few" other fish due to my lack a patience :(

My male rhomboid is blind in one eye and has been for a couple months. IT was fine and then one day I saw a growth in its mouth, much like a tumor. It developed pop eye and the tumor went away, now it is blind in one eye.

Does he still pull a lot of 'tail'? :love2:

My female Latz clown is blind in one eye. Made it really easy for me to sneak up on her when I needed to transfer the fish during this move.

Now I really feel bad. Never had any problem before the way it was acclamated, even after a long drive from wholesaler.

I too fear that there may be nothing I can do to help this poor fish. The rep did say there is a chance the vision will come back. he also said that if there is no kidney damage, and vision is restored, there is a good chance it can pull through. Fortunately it is pretty fat so I think it could last another week without eating.

One thing someone mentioned was that the symptoms sounded like oxygen deprivation. Thoughts about that?

I was going to say the same thing about oxygen deprivation. If the gill was burnt from the amonia spike, it may make it through if it heals fast enough.

DONT! Our acclimation regimen is fairly standard. From reading the feedback from people on the thread and from our buddy who is an expert clown breeder, I am not sure this could have been prevented. It really seems like a perfect storm scenario. NH3 spike, PH drop, oxygen deprivation due to inadequate water volume in the bag. I think it is just one of those fluke things that happen. Fingers are crossed. Maybe its time for us to try another wholesaler as well :rolleyes:

If it was due to O2 deprivation, I would think it would have died by now. Tangs are really sensitive to low O2 levels and usually dont make it long in O2 poor conditions. Angels and other fish are more resiliant IME to this sort of thing and might suffer from low O2 levels, but tangs have a much tougher time of it.

If the fish is fat, its got plenty of reserve and it could have time to recover....best of luck to you with it.

I would agree with this statement. If you have a critter thats been bagged up for a lengthy trip, about the only thing you can do right off the bat is bind up the ammonia....then start with acclimation.

sorry to hear about your Maculiceps. Jesus and I got the same fish from LA wholesaler and drove it back home. I quess we could say we got lucky, the fish acclimated ok. But some other fishes that looked heathy when we picked it, did not make it after a couple of day. Just one of those things.. I guess

Eric....are you still in San Diego? I am back in town and got your two Maculiceps. Got really nervous becuase the traffic out of hell hole (LA) was horrid so the six hours trip ended up about ten hours. A bit of a long ride for them but they seems to made it okay. Just checked up on them few hours ago and they still seems to be doing excellent. Didn't get to check out Tong's place in FV..maybe next time. Have a a safe trip home.

Hi Ed-

Yeah its just the price we pay to play the game. I personally think there was likely something wrong with the fish from the start or poor bagging. Too bad SDC won't own up to that. I am resigned to the fact we will probably never know the cause. Im not going to sweat $57.
As for the fish, it is still alive and kicking. It eats what it can stumble upon and seems to be getting stronger (lots more swimming around the fuge). I just don't know how it will survive long term without proper vision. Hopefully these new ones Jesus and I got are going to do just fine. We will keep you posted.

Thanks again for going out of your way to grab the fish! Sorry to hear about the nightmare trip! I am sure everything was just fine. Jesus and I are going to stop by today to grab the fish and pillage the other nice booty you got.
