WOW, looks awesome man

I searched hard, but I dont see the Asfur, is he still around?

Very sad to report that he bit it this weekend. The fish have been battling ich ever since the move. Garlic has kept it at bay but the Asfur recently came down with swelling in one eye and a few days later stopped eating. It was a quick decline from there. Had this fish for close to 4 years. Very sad.

Mark-

Just for you:

Thanks Erik; how large is the maculiceps compare to your dussumier? How did the dussumier react to its new acanthurus relative?

Sorry to hear about your fish loss :( , I hate it when I lose fish too. Your previous tank was amazing and this one I'm sure will be just as nice if not nicer. I can't believe I missed this thread. Also, love the ADA tank, I might get my g/f one because she really likes taking care of FW planted tanks. :)

Hi Mark-

The maculiceps is slightly larger than the dussumier. For the first day the duss punked his new tankmate pretty hard. Now they are getting along alright. The maculiceps just stays clear. Battling a pretty good case of ich right now. Debating if its worth the stress of catching him and dipping or just leave him to heal on his own. So far he won't eat any prepared food other than flake. Might try soaking nori in garlic juice. Fingers crossed...

How long have you had the latz? Just wondering. Sorry didn't have time to read the whole thing.

Probably about a year now which, I am told, equates to amazing success.

Thank you for the kind words. Yes I definitely miss my old tank. Still very sad about the loss of almost all my corals. This new tank, however, has much more potential. Besides some setbacks with fish disease, the tank is off to a strong start. I am amazed how quickly I was able to take control of the cyano and hair algae. So far no more coral deaths either. Still going to wait a few more months to add any new coral specimens.

The FW planted is really coming along well. I am amazed how clean it stays on its own and how little maintenance is involved. Maybe I should just convert the reef to FW planted??? I will try to post some more recent pics soon.

For your freshwater, are you doing any CO2? Pics are always welcomed. ;)

Also, do you run zeo or any other method? You had some nice coloration of sps on your previous tank. Interested in what method you use for such great coloration.

Yeah that's really good! They ever spawn? If so you should look into raising them, or have someone raise them because so many of those don't make it.

Saul-

CO2 is a must. Eheim canister full of bio media for filtration.

As for my reef care methods, I am a big proponent of simplicity. I only dose potassium iodide, strontium chloride, and aminos. Try to feed as little as I can get away with. This time I am trying out some new things (ie: cryptic zone and shallow sandbed). Only temporarily using the ferrous PO4 media to get through the initial phase. If you want the zeo look, you can run it permanently and change media often. FWIW I don't necessarily think its a 'healthy' look.

To summarize, my success with the last tank can be attributed to simplicity, stability, and a lot of luck.

I think I have two females so they have no spawned nor paired up. I am just glad they are alive. If ever they did pair up and spawn, Fingerwrinkles will be collecting the fry.
