AgentSPS' 300 Gallon ***DreamReef***

Wow. This has to be one of the best threads I've ever seen in my life. Sweet cars, a DIY oil cooled computer built out of an aquarium, and one incredible reef tank.

Can it get any better then that?

Good stuff Erik, Glad to see some updated coral shots. Did anything make it from the old system?

Hey Mark-

I managed to save pink table frags, a large reddish colored acro colony, Cali Torts, Tropical Paradise/Dalton Tort, wild sunset monti, superman monti, and thats pretty much it. Fortunately all my friends are hooking me up big time so I am off to a strong start. Going to hit up the wholesalers come spring.

That's good to hear Erik. I still have the red stag that came from James through Clint. If that is one you lost, you are welcome to a piece.

Cool! How big is it now? I was able to frag out a bunch of those pieces before the colony gave out. That is one tough coral. Thanks for the offer.

No problem, Your 225 was one of the nicest collections I have ever seen and I am just glad that I got a chance to see it. The piece I have is a 5x4 mini colony.

Johan-

Yes the rubble goes almost all the way to the top. The pipe running down the center is the drain from the overflow. It dumps under the grate which supports the rubble. The water then flows through the rubble and spills over a slit at the top into the baffle chambers.

hows the tilefish?

very dead. hung itself on the netting. I have since switched to a smaller mesh net.

Agent,

Wondering if your overflow is noisy? I too have a rimless A.G.E. and my wife is about to murder me if I don't do something about the noise. I can raise the stand pipes up where the water level in the overflow would be level with the tank water but then the pipes would be sticking up and I'm not down with that.

It is a little noisy but overall the tank is so much quieter than my last that I dont complain. What about just making a lid for your overflow? Thats what I am planning on doing.

I had Tom make me a 3/4 black acrylic lid and it didn't change the noise much. It's totally quiet with the raised stand pipes but I just cant stand the way it looks.

I would have never thought of that. Is this a proven method? What would prevent the packing nuts from clogging up the holes in the drain pipes?

I am sure someone has done before. Just use whole peanuts and they should be plenty buoyant enough to float high enough in the water to not go down the drain. Let us know how it works!

Erik

PS: make sure you don't use the starch based ones as they will turn into fish food.

so the rubble working sort of like fluidizer with LR inside?
