Aggression, Flirting or Playing?

Not Likely 2 Ever Grow Up
We bought a Blackspot Angelfish a few weeks ago and she has settled in nicely. However, I'm not sure the Hippo Tang appreciates her arrival - or maybe he's flirting with her? I just can't tell.

The angle pretty much ignores everything in the tank - including the Hippo. The Hippo will swim up to her really fast, turn sideways, and "wiggle". Or he swims up to her, turns around so he's facing the same direction and try to force her to swim a certain direction - like he's herding her like a sheep dog. He's even stolen food right out of her mouth!

They are about the same size - the angle maybe slightly larger. They are very similar in body shape and have the same markings on their tails. Could he be mistaking her for a girlfriend? Like I said, this behavior doesn't seem to bother the angel (its not scaring her or anything - she doesn't run and hide - she basically pretends he's not there, which seems to frustate him!).

Should i just keep an eye on them or is this normal or does the tang need to find a new home? Thanks!

it is the tank showing that HE is the boss of the tank. so long as the tank does not make contact with its tail, you should be ok.

Hippo tangs can be aggressive and sometimes fatal. One of my hippo will kill small fish and he's done it many times.... keep your eye on them...being that young shouldn't be a huge problem....

Good to know. Guess I was trying to convince myself he was just playing. If it continues, he'll have to find a new home - because we aren't getting rid of our beautiful new angel!
