Aggressive Lineatus male

I have an aggressive lineatus male that is chasing my other wrasse and smaller fish. He likes to show off and flash around the tank, but sometimes will chase other fish away and I think is the one biting their tails. Can I placate him by getting him some girlfriends or will this just make matters worse?

We had the same issue with our Red Velvet fairy wrasse. We put him in time out in our refugium for 6 weeks for an attitude adjustment before returning him to the display. It did wonders for his disposition.

How big was the wrasse and refugium? as Mine is only 12"x12" 8"high and the wrasse is ~4" I'm not sure whether that'll be too small

Your refugium is definitely too small.

Our Red Velvet terminal male is every bit of 5" if not more. The refugium area was 24"x18"x20" which was still a bit cramped for him, but manageable.

Have you tried a mirror? We have used them on occasion with good results.

Isolating him for a bit is a good option, as M&T have suggested.

Adding females is a 50/50 shot. He'll either get protective of his females, or he'll become too distracted by the females to care about the other tankmates.

Lineatus males are generally really passive as far as fairies go. Females are usually little b*!$%es compared to males...

what other wrasses/fairies do you have?

I wouldn't add females. Try mirror first to preoccupy him, if that doesn't work take him out for a week or so.

I have the following wrasse;

Macropharyngodon kuiteri
Macropharyngodon ornatus
Anampses lennardi
Anampses neoguinaicus
Paracheilinus filamentosus
Halichoeres melanurus
Halichoeres chrysus
Cirrhilabrus lineatus

I think the mirror will just **** off my tangs. I think its just he's territorial, as I found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6rKQmWCKnk and thats one ****ed off fish. Mine will chase for a few feet then give up.

I hope you all get in a nice supermale lineatus. Or a nice pair would do just fine too!! I've been keeping one eye on your site ;)
