Aggressive Yellow Tang with Juvi Achilles

Just got a Juvi Achilles from Divers den and introduced it. My yellow tang of all things is darting at it, but not spiking it. The Achilles seems to take it well but I am worried. Any ideas?

Depends on the size of your tank, if the size is unsuitable for an achilles to begin with you are definitely going to have problems. In a large 180 (being on the small size for an achilles) or larger, I think he will settle in fine. My powder brown beats pretty much any newcomer in the tank, but i've had even a copperbanded butterfly survive his aggression, so I think an achilles will hold its own.

What sized tank? How old is the yellow tang?

I have a 180 gallon. My Yellow Tang age is unknown. I got him from a guy and have had him 6 years. He was very timid when I got him. I then put a Purple in and he is now out all the time. The purple is about 5 years old also. The purple ignores the Achilles. I turned the light off till tomorrow to have him settle in. This may help.

Move some live rock around and break up the Yellow's established territory or put a mirror up and let the Yellow fight it's reflection until the Achille's settles in.

I have never seen him aggressive towards a new tank mate before. This is the first time. I will try the mirror when the lights come on tomorrow.

You can also print out and tape some pictures onto your tank of yellow tangs. It will give the achilles time to settle in and shouldn't stress the yellow out too much

my yellow would kill any new tang i added, even a show size whiteface that was about twice the yellows size. the whiteface was around 9 in
