I was selected as beta tester, but due to travel and such I never got around to ordering. And I think Fate was looking after me in this regard, as it seems this product was not near ready for beta...probably more "alpha".
My main concerns at this point, from reviewing this thread (and having design engineering experience), are more around the hardware readiness. Software/firmware can be fixed with a download, but not hardware.
I'll follow along to see when this thing looks to be closer to "ready" before pulling the trigger on ordering.
Btw, I am a Hydra owner (and a former Sol owner).

I think everyone's experience with the latest update that it's now much more reliable and stable. It's how I would have expected the beta to have been released!

Kind of a joke. That was a selling point for me and now a year later and still no full control. I noticed that they took that feature down off their website and the vendors don't mention it anymore as well.

I'll just stick with my existing new controller for now. What is amazing is that the little thing works just fine...connecting to lights and all. You would think they would have just webized an interface to that somehow, shoved it into a box and called it "Director".

I got the sol to work, I used no preset, made all of my changes and clicked save.

Personally, I think the Director hardware had been sitting on the shelf for many, many months and AI enticed hobbyists with great promises (and only $99 for the privilege) to move that hardware and recoup some of their costs before MACNA. They full well knew Neptune Systems was releasing a controller module and software upgrade to support their lights, and Director would likely be a dead project, and a total loss, as it should be. The Director doesn't even approach the functionality and usability of their 'new' controller, and that is a piece of crap at best.
I've already requested an RMA from AI for this sham of a product, and expect a full refund.

Apex announced at MACNA that they are releasing a wireless module to work with the Vegas and hydra. Anyone want to buy my director???

I'm reading all about the dissapointment that is the "Director".... Bummer for all involved.
I thought, with all of these Vega/Hydra/Sol owners in one place, I could get a few of you to show off your light mounting for these lights.
After this deployment (my 3rd), I'm treating myself to an LED upgrade and will be going with AI Vega Color.
I really like the rail system. I wish I could still get behind my tank to mount (3)Vega's from the rear....but it is REALLY heavy.
Anywho, some mounting option examples would be GREAT!

I'm not unhappy with my director. My vega colors are running well and I know it will only improve. I certainly am interested to see what Apex has up their sleeve to support AI though.
I have my vega colors hung with the hanging rail, love the look and easy ability to raise and lower.

I mounted mine from the sides using the EXT rails (hanging isn't an option, sadly). They are very heavy duty, and there is very little risk of them sagging, but they do look pretty hokey mounted that way. I'm looking at a tank/stand upgrade and will mount them behind the tank this time.

what a waste of $100
Mine works great! Of course I didn't ever buy the new wireless controller...I just went straight to the Director.
