AI Hydra Settings Thread

Here is what I just adjusted to. It was a 2-3% bump over my last settings. This is just for the 4 hour peak.

DB, RB, V - 100
W - 95
UV - 92
G - 88
R - 84

I believe I should be able to run all channels at 100% for the 4 hours of the peak, eventually.

And a 6 month progression shot to show how my settings work. This is 6 months to 1 year of the tank age.

Wow it looks great! Of course it would look 100x better under MH, corals would be growing out of the tank - probably would have paid for the tank and your rent with frags (kidding, kidding! Had to get a dig on the MH folks, lol)

It does look great though!

Thanks, I got over 40 frags in my frag tank right now. All from my tank.

Dang, great job. IME growth is all about feeding, but people like to lump it in with lights I think just so they can fight more, lol..

It is about getting all the variables in the right place. Light, flow, food, water chemistry, etc. all play a part.

Not to side track more, but I find most reefers obsess about those other factors far more than the feeding of coral, but the current research seems to indicate the feeding is the biggest factor for growth - of course you need to have chemistry in the accepted range and correct flow for extension, capture and consumption along with waste elimination.

Awesome! I have a pair of hydra 52 on a director that I am still playing with. Can you post your aip file? Would love to use proven settings.

Also what are you feeding? Just fish poo?

It is posted in my build thread. For food I just feed generously. Make sure to do long acclimations.

Hydra 26

Hydra 26

Hello guys ,

I have a Dennerle 60 tank, where I have a Hydra 26 over it,
the distance to the water is 17 cm, the tank is 45 cm high.
Could you please tell me witch settings i should use on my controller .
I habe sps and lps in the tank and also lots of zooanctus .

What % for the power would you use and also what light settings for
growth.

Thanks
Markus

That is almost the same height as my tank at 17.71" (45cm) high but your only 6.69" (17cm) over the tank so I would probably lower them from my numbers but this is what I currently use (18" cube and light mounted 12" AWL). However, I just got a new Trachy 3 weeks back that doesn't like the light so bright so I'm working on adjusting the numbers again and moving stuff around. Here is where I am currently at:

UV=15
Violet=50
Royal Blue=70
Deep Blue=70
Red=15
Green=15
White=40

Hy George,

my settings where before

white 55%
violet 50%
red 15%
green 60%
deep blue 83%
royal blue 90%
UV 45%

Coral akli. 30% for 4 weeks

that did not work ,because my vavia and my acro. got bleach t and a lot of
zoanthus on the bottom and in the middle of the tank got very small and lost color even closed totally.
I don`t no what to do .:headwallblue:

I try another setting ,maybe it works

white39%
violet35%
red 11%
green 42%
deep blue 59%
royal blue 63%
UV 32

20% for two week coral akli.

I hope someone can help me, it is very sad that even AI write a instruction for the use of led lamps ,like what happen if you use to much UV,or royal blue.
And maybe some settings for different sizes of tanks and so on.Arent they the experts?
Anyhow I have to apologias for my english but I came from bavaria and dont
use it much.
Regards
Markus

I would set your settings at the following because you are so close to the water:

UV=8
Violet=35
Deep Blue=60
Royal Blue=60
Red=10
Green=10
White=30

Make sure your colors ramp up for 2-3 hrs minimum each morning and then ramp down for 2-3hrs too. I would then set your acclimation for 4 weeks at a 30% reduction or more if you feel your corals have been burned.

After 4 weeks if everything is doing fine, I would try to increase your numbers by very small amounts over weeks at a time. For example, increase one of your blues by 5% for 2 weeks. If ok, increase your other blue 5% for 2 weeks, etc.....

Take your time and make a log (Excel Spreadsheet) every day to record if any corals closed or changed. If a zoa closed for 1-2 days but opened back up, all ok. If it closed for a week and hasn't opened, you may have too much light. Rewind back to the settings that worked and try again or stay at that setting. Up to you.

Hope this helps. It worked for me.

hy George,

many thanks for your help :thumbsup: ,
I will try it and see how it goes.
Would you think I also should put the Hydra a bit higher above the water level and still work with the settings you gave me?
Iam really grateful for the help.

Regards
Markus

You could move them up if you feel you need to start at a lower intensity. The only thing it may effect is any acropora you may have if they are not at the top of your tank. If you have mostly LPS and Zoas, you should be fine with moving the lights up a little.

Good Luck!

Hi guys!
I have a 26 coming in tomorrow, and was hoping to get some advice about initial settings. I have a biocube 29 with 3 ecoxotic panorama pros retrofitted in the hood. All three are at 100% right above the water line, but I know that a real fixture with lenses puts out a lot more PAR. Hoping to get started at a reasonable level, and acclimate. Thanks!

Brian
