AI Hydra Settings Thread

Yes, acclimation is set to 40% and yes it's on.
I haven't waited long enough I guess to see if they would go back to acc setting I left it at.
They just dim lower from acc when I power the remote.
Ill try it, But something doesn't seem right.
Thx.

Haha, thanks Gregrocks, I don't mind helping out fellow reefers, I'm have been in IT all my life so some of this is just second nature to me.

Figured I'd post my settings. I'm coming from 2 Kessil A360's to two 52's on my 90g. Been playing around for about 2-3 weeks. Here is what I've settled on. Trying to see how strong they are compared to the Kessils..... anyone here that made that switch? I ran them at 100%

UV - 70
V - 100
DB - 90
RB - 95
G - 30
R - 25
CW - 60

40% acclimation for 2 months

Swapped my 26 to a 52 two weeks ago.

Mounted the same, 5" above the water over a 2x2x2 cube, 90% SPS.

Using Director I kept the setting the same.

What a mistake, corals have slightly faded.

Settings are now;-
UV 20
VIOLET 20
BLUES 62
GREEN 15
RED 10
WHITE 20

40% acc for 8 weeks

Interested to hear you're opinions.

Yes that was a big mistake, you effectively doubled your LEDs and kept the same intensity that would be bad. I would watch for browning with the UV at 20

Hello! New Hydra 52's with AI controller just installed but the control doesn't seem to be communicating with the lights :( I admit I'm a dummy but selected these b/c supposed to be top quality, I believe they are but so far learning how to use hasn't happened. The lights don't seem to be linked up to control, I used the red button on the side of hydra to turn off then clicked 3 times for a lower power not wanting to burn up everything. Not sure what else to do, did register lights. Anyone using this control not the director? Tks for any help, Robert

Did you link the controller to lights?

Go to Menu>set up lights then move down. Click on setup lights. I think that's what it said might be something else though. Not many choices to choose from.
hit ok and then it will start looking for lights. And done.
I would use the easy program for starters

well I did see the screen ask to link up the lights the first time I had plugged the control up but at that time I didn't have the lights plugged up and by the time I was able to get the lights on I've never been able to see the link up page again

This could be a little off topic so please forgive. LED's get bashed for poor growth. Is this because the lights aren't tuned to a specific spectrum that is known to promote growth but are tuned to be pleasing to view. I understand the issues of too much PAR and other chemistry parameters that affect coral growth but would like to know if this is why some tanks thrive under 52's because they are dialed in with an Apex controller to a specific spectrum. Feedback is appreciated.

I have apex and run my lights for 10 hrs at 14k setting 50% and then mid day bump up to 60% at 12k and everything is doing great. You may think that% is low but I have 6-52s over my 60x27x27 190g and sps color up good and growth is pretty good.

I'm still glueing frags but will stick with less and grow it out big like my last tank under sols. This time I left room for more growth. Good luck!

Getting to know the control a little better, but not using it to control the lights just yet still letting the Neptune turn them on/off. BTW what do the #'s on units designate, every piece has two are they model/serial #? Not so sure about my control it has grey buttons and most pics I see are not on ai website,it's.

Talked with Tim at customer service today and have a better understanding of it now and will be programming tonight when I get home. The control with the grey touch pads is the newer control and is not shown on their website. I plan the easy setup to start and use the acclimation for 30 days, thanks.

Hello all the way from Western Australia.

I was looking at these lights when I was setting my tank up last year but they weren't in the country at the time.

Having just finished reading all 132 pages I wish I had waited as my current lights are not cutting the mustard (orphek compact).

Just seems not many people use the lights I have and it seems there is limited information on them in relation to settings. Haven't had much luck with them directly either but that aside I think I want to make the switch.

A few questions though

1. I have a 2ft cube would I be better of with a 52 or a 26?
2. People seem to run their light 24/7 with the lunar mode. Don't corals need a rest?
3. Seems you have to buy the hanging kit separately is this right?
4. Director - does this have to be plugged into router directly or is this also wifi based?

I have a mixed reef tank.

Hello, a hydra 26 will be fine for a 2x2x2 cube.
The lights run 24/7 but drop down to 0 during a new moon, this helps simulate lunar cycles.
Yes hanging kit is separate and the director must stay plugged in to a router, it will tuen communicate wirelessly with the lights.

Yeah it seems a 26 is all I would need which seems strange given it seems quite small in size. Yes I realise these pack a punch though would be worried about shadowing.

The other issue is none of my LFS sell these so I can't even trial a 26 or 52 to see which would be better.

If you are worried about shadowing or not enough coverage on the edges, then go for a 52, at least you will be ready for when you upgrade.
