AI Hydra Settings Thread

i just got 3 hydras and a director for my red sea s 650, the problem is for the last 2 days trying to get the director to work right, iv had nothing but issues, i ended up hard wiring with ethernet port and it was better but still i lost connection when i got up in the morning the light was red, and unless i unplug the unit and plug it back in, it won't come back online (green light). anyone else having issues with director.

Did you reset the network settings after setting it up wirelessly then going to Ethernet? I would do this first. Even though you may be losing LAN connection the internal wifi radio should still be communicating with the lights.

If you are hard wired to the router, you have a permanent connection to the Web interface. You still need the director within range of the lights so that it can communicate with them. Sounds like the director may be out of range from the lights.

wondering about the max range between the Director and lights.

My Director is in the stand under my tank so only going through 3' of air, some plywood and the water yet max number of bars I've seen is 2.

I have 2nd tank with two hydras about 12' away from director. I get only one bar, but it works without issues.

My director is about 15' from lights but are in direct line of site with no connectivity issues. I have seen more of what looks like memory issues.

no i am only losing connection with the controller is the messege i keep getting, the controller is almost on the tank right next to lights. im plugged into my mac bc my router doesnt have an ethernet plug. im talked with ai right now and they have said there doing another update later in the week to hopefully fix the dropping conection issue.

What's the real advantage of the director? I'm running both hydras off the new controller on easy settings... Just curious

So, what are the latest and greatest settings as of lately?

I have mine at...

DAY/NIGHT
W 60 / 0
V 100 / 10
R 40 / 0
G 40 / 0
Db 100 / 10
Rb 100 / 10
Uv 80 / 5

12pm-8pm with a 2hr ramp time. Lunar cycle is on. 8" above water.

I'm on Hydra52s so a lil different on settings since different LEDs..

Easy Setup --

DAY/NIGHT
W 30/ 0
V 47 / 0
R 32 / 0
G 32 / 0
Db 59 / 0
Rb 59 / 1
Uv 47 / 1

7am - 6pm, 4 hour ramp

About 10" off AWL... doing acclimation right now so I dont want to go too high yet.

OK so I changed my Whites to 65.

I was able to raise them to 9.5" AWL, which that is max allowable height for my in wall setup. Not much on changes so we'll see...

Just fyi, if you are using the lunar cycle you need to have one color set to minimum 5%, most likely deep blue.

current settings... but still playing around with them, all corals coming out good mostly lps, 1 hour ramp time 12-8 settings are lower right now then stated due to i have coral acclimation on at 35% for a month. also have clouds at 10/20, lights 10" off the water
after a month they will be these settings
day/night
W 48/ 0
V 65 / 0
R 16 / 0
G 25 / 0
Db 75 / 0
Rb 80 / 1
Uv 70 / 6

Since the sun isn't out at night you don't need us on all night, setting the dark blue to minimum 5% Wil allow the lunar cycle to run correctly with all the moon phases.

Ic.

I set my V, RB, DB at 10% so on the "no moon" nights i still get 1% on from those lights. Its not a true "lunar" cycle but it keeps my tank viewable at night.

I guess theres no right or wrong. As long as you have 5% itll work.

Guess ill do some tweeking on which i like better...

Hmmm, I suppose if it's programmed to use the other colors it should work, I do wish it could go Down to 1% for the no moon nights instead of off.

But with 10% on three colors you will have a lot of light.

A full moon is only 4-5days a month so its not to bad

*Example with Royal Blue ONLY at 5%*
New Moon
5% x .10 = 0%
Waxing Crescent
5% x .20 = 1%
First Quarter
5% x .40 = 2%
Waxing Gibbous
5% x .60 = 3%
Full Moon
5% x 1.0 = 5%
Waning Gibbous
5% x .60 = 3%
Third Quarter
5% x .40 = 2%
Waning Crescent
5% x .20 = 1%

- A full moon only lasts 4-5 days for the entire month, so the intensity setting of 5% won't be seen for 3 weeks.
