AI Hydra Settings Thread

I will for sure go back 15 pages and read up.

I read something about the radion schedule. See if I can read up on that as well.

I have not made up my mind if I want to do sps yet. I thought about setting up a 30g tank for coral experiment. The fact that you have that much light does indicate I would need more lights.

Unfortunately in an attempt to not scare customers away manufacturers quote these amazing numbers for light spread. But since LED's are point source lighting you must add many more points (i.e. Additional fixtures) in order to achieve full shadowless coverage. If you have any more questions please ask!

Thanks man! I think the hd 52s maybe better than my regular 52s as I see they have all major colors at the same count on the hds and makes it easy to copy the radion AB+ light settings. Some of my sps I have had for 4 yrs and it's nice to know I can keep them alive for the most part lol.

Makes sense since AI is fully integrated that in order to save costs the Radion and Hydra lineups will continue to edge even closer to each other over time. Also, I like the "for the most part", ain't that some truth right there haha

Yep it's the truth lol. You will always want better color and growth but if I could get them super healthy and keep alk nuts on I'm sure the color would come.

I run dosing pump and run aqua forest but have thought about running a calcium reactor instead. Just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

My Lifereef sump is being built right now for my new build (SCA 50) and Jeff has fully planted the Calcium Reactor seeds haha

From what I have seen they provide all elements for sps growth and color. Really makes me want one.

They do, I have a few buddies with beautiful sps dominant tanks that run reactors. Since they also run biopellets they are able to do virtually no Waterchanges. My main mental block has to do with price. $800-1000 for the reactor, peristaltic pump, feed pump, regulator, CO2 tank etc. For something I take care of with 20$ a year worth of Kalk and dow flake is a tough pill to swallow lol

Marketing 101 lol.

I will keep reading and then ask more questions. Thank you

I switched back to my old MHs (2x 175W) over the weekend. About seven months ago, I replaced the MHs with 2x Hydra 52 HDs. However, since then I lost around 60 gbtas out of 80+ clones. My tank looks horrible. At first I thought it might be due to water quality but parameters looked good and stable. The tank has been up and running since 2006. The 80+ gbta clones started from one gbta. The biggest change was the lights. I acclimated the tank and while at the time looked like the anemones seemed ok with it, over time they started to shrink, disappear, or move. None of them bleached though. I had tried different settings and intensities. Bought a par meter and had 350 par at WL and around 100-125 par at the sand bed. Unfortunately I didnt have par readings from the MHs prior. Anyways, after switchung back, I found that the MHs put out a par of 225 at WL. The remaining anemones seem to be doing better since the switch. I do like the Hydras and may switch back once the anemones amd tank get back to normal but setting the intensity appropriately. Thought I would share my experience so far.

What settings were you using? My bta is thriving under a pretty intense schedule. I did however find it really dislikes the lights when CW is above 30.

Hi Guys

I have the hydra 26 set up via iPhone etc with direct link

I run whites uv's and blues etc from morning but would like to switch to blues only around 5.30pm as I prefer the blue look at night.

Is it possible to program them so that the white drops out at 5.30pm and maybe reduce the blues down etc automatically??

I have been playing around with adding points in but it seems to ramp down then back up on the graph. It's probably obvious but I can't quiet get it!?

I've just thought - is it because I've got the easy set up on and when I add a point it then tries to get back to easy set up ?

It's ok guys I've just answered my own question - the easy set up was on so each addition kept trying to go back to the easy setups

It's only taken me since June 2016 to realise this!!!!

you have to then go to the graph at 530 and manually open the settings and drop the whites off to 0 and continue down the graph til its all zero

I have an AI Hydra and a Director. I haven't really used the director much in the past and decided to plug it up and get it going. I have a Nano tank cube (I think 24 gallon or so.) I was just curious what settings you guys would recommend for this tank. How long to run it, how to adjust the various light colors, etc. Also, I did an easy set up and changed the numbers a bit based on something I saw on this forum. Is there any way I can take a screen shot from my browser to show the forum what my settings are now?

Thanks so much!

So on xmas eve I was at the LFS which was just the owner and I for about 2 hrs haha. Over his main frag display he has Radion G3's on one side and Hydra 52HD's on the other. Since it was dead we busted out the PAR meter and got to work. He already runs sps AB+ on the Radions and our PAR readings backed up the WWC study at 24" AWL 12" BWL which was about 300 PAR. The profile I made when loaded onto the hydras was fairly close about 300 PAR under the same conditions but the visible color was a bit "whiter" in appearance (It was a very slight difference). Next we dropped the Hydra's to 13" AWL because I have noticed what appeared to be burning on a few of my lower light demand corals (Birdsnest in particular). What we found is when dropping to this height par jumped to nearly 400 at 12" depth. After messing with the settings for a good bit we settled on reducing white, red, green by about 30% and came up with a 12" AWL profile that I am now currently running on my tank. He is keeping the original profile running on his tank as am I the new on mine so I will update in a month or so with our results.I will say however that judging by the PAR readings we gathered and the visual spectral comparison observed between the radions and hydras I would put money on the fact that we will see similar results to the radions running sps AB+. Attached are the new links to both profiles. Happy reefing!!!!! AI SPS AB+ 12" AWL ( https://1drv.ms/u/s!Akco_cmvvLNrgZhvyvRF4Kf5orQL7w ). HI Guys, is there anyway to move the timing over for the entire schedule?
I downloaded the 12" profile but would like to run it from 11am to 11pm or 12pm to 12am so I can enjoy the tank. I don't get a chance to appreciate it during the day.

thanks in advance for your help.

I asked this same question previously. No way yet to change the whole program all at once. You have to pull each one over individually. Def stinks for sure.

No lol I just live with it at this point. If you do want to do it. I would do it on a computer would we a lot easier on that then an iPad or iPhone
