AI Hydra Settings Thread

So I just uploaded the 12" profile that you created Oculus, with help from Heinz. I will post before and after pics here in a month or two. I had to adjust the height of my 26HD as I just took possession of the new hydra gooseneck which moved my light from 5.5" to 12" AWL.

Thanks for taking the time to create this profile and share it, it really says a lot about Ecotech to create this profile for their customers based upon results, hopefully we will see more of these "standard" profiles come out from the different LED manufacturers like AI going forward. More to come.

Anytime!! I'm just glad we are getting a little group started to find the sweet spot for these lights. Kessil and Radion users have many such groups but AI not so much. I can't wait to hear how the profile works out for you. Happy reefing!

Having AWESOME success with the SPS AB+ mock profile on the Hydra 26.
Only seeing my tank every few days. It's located at my ladies house (and will be until we get married in a few weeks and I move in). Until then, I've trained her well to dose my ZEOvit products :D. Anyways, my corals are loving it. Every time I come back I see slightly newer growth. My colors are getting outstanding. For example this acro below. 2 weeks apart. I picked it up as a bright pink mini colony, sitting at the bottom of my LFS's sps tank. The other day when I did my water change, I noticed a very vibrant blue color forming.

Did a 35% Acclimation period which ends January 21st. So it's almost finish. From there I'll leave it be. LED's biggest issues revolve from users constantly changing settings. So I want to only go more intense when absolutely needed.

Hello everyone!!
Could you suggest me an hydra 26hd setting for a tank with LPS (more) and SPS coral? Tks

Look back a few pages and upload my 12" AWL sps ab+ profile to your light. Does very well for my mix of LPS & SPS corals.

So on xmas eve I was at the LFS which was just the owner and I for about 2 hrs haha. Over his main frag display he has Radion G3's on one side and Hydra 52HD's on the other. Since it was dead we busted out the PAR meter and got to work. He already runs sps AB+ on the Radions and our PAR readings backed up the WWC study at 24" AWL 12" BWL which was about 300 PAR. The profile I made when loaded onto the hydras was fairly close about 300 PAR under the same conditions but the visible color was a bit "whiter" in appearance (It was a very slight difference). Next we dropped the Hydra's to 13" AWL because I have noticed what appeared to be burning on a few of my lower light demand corals (Birdsnest in particular). What we found is when dropping to this height par jumped to nearly 400 at 12" depth. After messing with the settings for a good bit we settled on reducing white, red, green by about 30% and came up with a 12" AWL profile that I am now currently running on my tank. He is keeping the original profile running on his tank as am I the new on mine so I will update in a month or so with our results.I will say however that judging by the PAR readings we gathered and the visual spectral comparison observed between the radions and hydras I would put money on the fact that we will see similar results to the radions running sps AB+. Attached are the new links to both profiles. Happy reefing!!!!! AI SPS AB+ 12" AWL ( https://1drv.ms/u/s!Akco_cmvvLNrgZhvyvRF4Kf5orQL7w ). I would use my 24" above water line profile with the elevated whites (average about 30%) but I wouldn't take it up any higher then that or your getting out of the spectrum range highlighted in the sps ab+ profile :)

I would! Eventually I would look to add another 26hd or a 52hd to a tank that size though if you plan on keeping branching sps. If your goal is just lps and some encrusting sps you should be okay with the two 26hd's. For reference when I move up to my 50 gallon cube next month (SO EXCITED!) I'll be running a hydra 52hd and two ai prime hd's so 6 pucks total. Here's how I'm going to lay out the lights.

I've found these have worked best in my 93corner tank. Lights are 16" AWL / 22" from water level to sand bed.

I personally find that all led manufacturers over rate lights as to not scare off potential customers. If they stated "to eliminate shadowing you need 1 puck for every 12"x12" area of tank" most new buyers would run for the hills haha. It is much easier to quote a spread of 24x24. That statement by the manufacturer is not false as light from the fixture will reach the whole quoted area. However, since LED's are a point source light it is hard for them to achieve shadowless lighting coverage (I.e. Illuminating both sides of a given coral (shadowless) vs. illuminating one side of the coral). Thus the only realistic way to eliminate shadowing and the resultant odd growth patterns for branching stoney corals is to add more points of light, or a supplemental light such as t5ho. I hope this helps explain why I reccomend at least one more light for a tank your size :) Happy Reefing!

Put this in my tank about a week ago and already have noticeable growth and white growth tips all over. Granted its a quick growing Staghorn.. But still! Tank is doing insane with this light setup!!
