AI Hydra Settings Thread

it seems like from what I've read and this is just my opinion i could be wrong but, sps seems to do good with higher uv and violet levels. even zoas and softies are ok with higher levels especially in uv and violet. but it seems lps retracts and doesn't like it. when i brought uv and v down to around 40 levels everything looked good sps polyps still out and lps came out all the way. i have read this and have seen this in my own tank at least for the short while, i do need to give it more time myself but i believe I'm on the right track.

Sonic.... First day without hydras... My Lps never looked better.... Put old lights back up, but I have somthig in the works that's I'll keep you informed on

Glad to hear everything is working out, like tweekedta said, seems like hydras may be too strong for a mixed tank. Please keep us updated.

I've read this entire thread and there's some really great info on here. I've got 3 Hydra 52s over my 265g mixed reef. I had one problem with the director which AI fixed remotely (that was cool). I've been playing around with intensity settings, ramp times, length of time at peak power...etc. all my corals are doing fine, but I am having an outbreak of cyano/brown sandbed, which wasn't a problem before cutting over to these lights. S after reading this thread, I am reducing the Red and Green to 15% and only running them for about 5 hours. I dropped white to 45% from 55% I will post entire scheme tomorrow, but real curious if anyone's seen brown sand bed syndrome or cyano outbreak since putting AI Hydra or Hydra 52s? I have AI Soln Blues over my 125g for over a year and the coral growth is phenomenal. I've had the 52s on the 265g since the end of Dec. and hoping for same success.

Had a huge algea bloom when I first switched and ran greens at like 40%

Sonic, he's a dealer for ecotech... So he wants me to try before I buy type deal..

What #'s / settings are you using? Sols think don't have R,G or UV does that mean we should cut back on that light spectrum?

My SPS haven't had much PE. Could be the phos I've had and could be the flameback angel(even though I've never seen him pick at anything) but I'm guessing my numbers are too high. How high from the water are your lights?!

11.5 AWL high phos will slow /stop all calcium from being taken in by corals.

And help to grow the green hair algae I have going on! Already on top of that. I've had my lights on acclimation mode cutting it by 80% and some corals have been loving it. Which is why I've been now do wrong if my % is too high...

Update...
2nd day without hydras...
Buddy brought over some gen 3 radions.
I hooked up 1 g3 pro and that's it for my 36x18x24

All I can say is bravo! It's so crazy how it looks compared to the hydras.. And I had little algea on my glass.

I think I may make the switch

The water for some reason looks clearer.. I know that might sound weird, but it could be the tir lenses.

I'll keep you guys updated... Again, I'm not dogging the hydras, and because I've been part of this thread from the beginning... I thought I owed it to you guys to update you. I think we all are running the hydras too high
