AI Hydra Settings Thread

Anyone using the moon phase setting? What colours do you use and how is working for you?
Also do you have it running all night?

I tried it felt like the tank was bright and fish stayed swimming all night.

Yea definitely too bright. The fish don't go to sleep which cannot be healthy

1% UV I found lit the tank enough so if a wrasse ventured out it wouldn't get spooked but dark enough that the fish went to bed.
Whether having UV at 1% running all night is detrimental to the corals I don't know

I having been running 5 Hydras over my 6 foot long 18" deep 30" tall tank for 6 months
When I first started keeping corals 4.5 years ago I had a triple 150 w halide unit, I saw great growth. I then moved on to a 6 bulb ATI T5 unit. I saw excellent growth with that.
I was looking at my tank last night and thought I'm definitely getting very minimal growth from these LEDs. Yes they look good. I like the glitter lines, love the controllability, love the colours BUT the whole point is growing corals. I stated pages back that LEDs nit coming with instructions for intensities photoperiod etc, which I think must be detrimental to the tank, in fact it is as has been shown with bleaching, algae blooms etc.
My current settings are
White 40, Violet 55, Red 12, Green 12, D-Blue 80, Royal 80, UV 35,
Timer Sunrise 2pm, Ramp 3 hours, Sunset 7pm Sunset 10pm
Favour Whites
Would like you guys thoughts on the above :)

I swear by the moon phase, I regularly see my cleaner shrimp release babies into the water column on full moons. Have mine set from 10pm to 5am with deep blue at 5% min.

Interesting - I did have them on last night till 11pm - my naso and yt stayed up the whole time. my moon fava didn't open either.

my shrimp and clownfish spawn all the time :) I think I will just do a longer sunup and sundown with blue's @ 5% and 2%.

thanks for the input this thread has been very helpful.

wow that is a lot of light. I have three over my 180 (swapped out 4 vertex)

i have found that lowering the whites to 30% works much better. My ramp up time starts @ 7am and ends @ 8:30 - i have a 5hr peak time. I did start to notice algae starting on the sand and have lowered my reds and greens.

Unlike you - I have noticed significant growth in the last month on all my sps.

your hydro bill must be a lot lower:thumbsup:

I had to lower my white back down to 35%, noticed my top most coral, a purple tipped acro I am not risking started fading.

I set my whites to 35 on my 7' 265g. Just seems like a very low setting compared to MHs. My R & G are now at 0. This brown crap on the sand bed is really frustrating. I've two weekends of WCs (52g each). NO3 and PO4 are nill. Running Ecobak pellets and Carbon in MR2 reactors. Got Purigen also in the sump w/Chaeto. Lots of fish. ProteinSkimmer producing normal waste (SRO5000). 52W UV bulb changed about a month ago. Not sure why else I can do. Problem didn't exist before I put these lights on in Dec. bTW - 3 Hydra 52s.

I am new to the forum but have had my tank running off and on for about 8 years. It is a standard 55 gallon (I know its small). I have decided I wanted to move towards a reef/fish tank so I bought some of the Hydras. I have read this entire tread and taken most of the advice and made my settings on my lights. I just added an anemone and zoanthid last night, so I do not yet know how they are reacting to my settings. Below are what I have. What do you think?

UV: 8-10AM ramp up to 50%, 10-12 ramp to 60% and hold till 2:30 and then ramp down to 1% till 8PM
V: 8-11 ramp up to 55%, hold till 7 and ramp down to 0 till 930
DB: 8-11 ramp from 5-80% hold till 7 and ramp down to 5% till 930
RB: 8-11 ramp to 85% hold till 7 and ramp down to 0 till 930
R/G: 8-11 ramp to 15% hold till 7 and ramp down to 0 till 930
W: 8-11 ramp to 35% hold till 7 and ramp down to 0 till 930

Lunar is Enabled from 10-5
Clouds are 20/25
Lightning is 10/20
Acclimation is set to 30% reduction for 30 day with the addition of the new items

Thanks!

I don't want to turn this into an algae problem thread but check your top off water.

looks good to me. how long have you had the hydra's set up?
