AI Hydra Settings Thread

So I'm trying something new on another tank. I'm running hydras instead of vegas to see if I can pull out some of the colors I lost during the LED switch.

As of right now my light cycle is roughly 10 hours and I'm capped at 40% white/60% blues/20% green and red on the vega colors.

what are some of you guys running your uv/v at?

I think unless you have a deep tank the 52 does seem like over kill. My though was to buy 2 52s instead of 3 hydra, but the spread is still limited. On a 6ft I would have needed 3 52s

Seems the Hydra is pretty strong, why would you need the 52? Depth maybe?

I've been reading a ton on the Hydras since Apex announced they will be able to control them. I was leaning heavily toward the new dimmable onyx but may be headed to the hydra.

I have dropped my whites to 35% my uv is @ 30% at peak for 6hrs

yeah, I'm assuming the vega/hydra would share the same overpowering whites so I figured it'd be low. Just interested what it would be in regards to uv/v since I've just seen such mixed reports on intensity levels.

It seems like it runs early in the morning and goes down early also. Are you having this same thing happen? I was thinking of changing the time on the director to trick the time to be on more while I'm home after work.

There is a time zone offset setting on the director for this. I have mine set to Honolulu w a 3 hour offset

Have a question about the fans.I have not seen the fans run at all since i had them up and going for a few months.None of my settings are over 55%.I know the y only come on when they get a certain temp.Is this normal.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity waiting on a rail and controller (only one week, LOL), I have my Hydras set up and running. It was painful looking at the two lights and not being able to use them because of back ordered parts. The LFS was patient with me while I called every day asking if they had come in. I am still waiting on the Director, so tired of waiting I bought the wireless controller to use while I wait.

I have read through this entire posting which was a lot of help, thanks to everyone, and decided to go with the following settings:

w - 35
db - 75
rb - 75
g - 15
r - 15
uv - 60
v - 65

Set to Fiji with a ramp time of 4.0, starting at 6am to 6pm.

Using cloud cover at 100% and max'd at 5x.

For lunar I went with 5% rb from 6pm to 6am.

Coral acclimation at 50% for one month. Old lighting was a 6 bulb T5 fixture with 2-12k, 2-actinic, 1-deep ocean blue and 1-Fiji Purple.

2 - Hydras on a 75g set parallel, 10" above the water level.

Since a dieing anemone nuked my tank 4 months ago and several 50%+ water changes later, I am left with only softies but will be replacing my lps and adding several sps in the coming months.

Any advice/comments on my settings?

Maybe set your lunar for 10pm-6am.

Because with a 4hr ramp the "sun" will begin to set at 6pm but not disappear until 10pm. It surely wont hurt anything though.

Other than that looks good.

If their in a decently cool room they might not ever come on, and thus the heatsinks are doing their jobs.

If your really worried, try cranking up the intensities and see if they come on after awhile. But for sake of the tank I would remove them first so nothing is stressed...but that's your call...

Justin from AI is working with me on one of my fans. It doesn't ever kick on even though the light right next to it has the fan running at about 70% during midday. He sent me a replacement fan but it still didn't work, hopefully I don't have to ship my light back and be dark for a few days.

What lights are you coming from if other than LED's it may be a lot of power.

If you keep you house cool it may never come on at low to medium power.

I agree, or lower your ramp time to 2-3 hours, also when there is a new moon, your lights will be off starting at 6pm. if you have it set to 10 pm or something like that, you will at least be able to enjoy lunar lighting until then.

so my lights look like this right now

natural sunlight is visible at about 7
8-11 30w/40b/30uv+v/10r/10g - 1hr ramp
11-2 40w/50b/40uv+v/10r/10g -1hr ramp
2-4 50w/65b/50uv+v/10r/10g - 1hr ramp
4-6 40w/50b/40uv+v/10r/10g - 1hr ramp
6-7 30w/40b/30uv+v/10r/10g - 1hr ramp
7-10 1b - 5 minute ramp
10-8 lights out

think i should change it any way?
