Nice tankThought I would share my max settings.
White: 40% (when higher than 45% i feel like my corals look burnt)
Violet: 55%
Red: 12% (when higher than 15% algae growth goes up)
Green: 10% (when higher than 15% algae growth goes up)
D-blue: 63%
Royal: 64%
UV: 55%
The light fixture is 7-8" above the water. I'm at a 12 hour photo period with a 3 hour ramp up and down. These max settings are on the tank for 6 hours a day.
Here are some pics of what the tank looks like. All pics have been taken with a Canon 7D with a 24-70L mk I lens. I have post processed the pics in Lightroom to make them more like as I see them on my tank. :wavehand:
Well I have made some changes on my lights and I'll share with you now. This is the most effective and I noticed increased coloration and growth after that.
UV light helps the growth a lot. That's what I have noticed but with caution because it will fry your corals fast so I have now 5 lightning periods:
1) Sunrise
CW: 10
NW: 0
WW: 0
UV: 20
Violet: 100
DB: 100
RB: 100
Red: 10
Green: 10
Overal intensity: 80%
60min ramp
2 hours period
2) Mid Day 1 (High UV)
CW: 70
NW: 0
WW: 0
UV: 100
Violet: 100
DB: 100
RB: 100
Red: 30
Green: 30
Overal intensity: 80%
1 min ramp
2 hours period
3) MidDay 2 (low UV)
Same settings as the midday1 but only 20% UV and CW at 50%
5 hours period
4) Sun Down
Same as the sunrise but no white and reverse ramp (120 min reverse ramp)
2 hours period
5) Moon
All zero but DB: 1%, RB: 1%
I'm using this for 2 weeks now and the improvement on the colors and growth is really better then my previous settings.
Wow beautiful tank.I also have foud my sweet spot.
I'm Using Hydra52 (19 of them)
CW: 60
Green: 20
Violet: 40
Red: 20
Blue: 100
Deep Blue: 100
Royal Blue: 100
UV: 30
Overal intensity: 90%

Nah, the director should update the light once you connect it.
Hi guys, just jumping in again after letting my tank get used to the new lights for a month, have to say all corals are looking fine mainly LPS but i have to admit i don't like the overall Purple/Blue look of the tank and it doesn't seem as bright as my old T5s on my RSM tank. Tank is a 24x24x24 with one AI hydra about 9" from the top. No bleaching or algae problems and currently running at -
UV 40
VI 60
DB 85
RB 85
G 60
R 60
W 50
Anyone running higher than these?
Thanks
Simon.
Hey Zed, IMO your setting are kinda high. BE VERY CAREFUL, just because they don't look bright to your eyes , doesn't mean they are not bright for your corals. I think most of us here will say the same, specially the ones who have fried coral lol. I had the rsm as well, and trust me this think kicks those crappy rsm t5 butt in power , even in medium settings. Start your setting low and weekly bring them up by lets say, 1-5 %. Those Reds and Greens are high as well, most of us run them low because the just grow algae. My tank is about the same size as yours, and i am running to of them. If i got above 50% on any channel , i will start seeing burnt tips in like 2 days . If you like ur color temp were your setting are at now, consider running coral acclimation mode for about a month or so. gL
I have seen a couple of tanks with elegance here under the hydras how are they holding up under these lights?. Second question I am in progress on a plywood 390 gallon build 8' by 40" wide by 24" deep. Right now I have three sol blues could I mix sol blues with hydras and run on apex or would I have to have the director for hydras and apex for sol blues?. Third question just how many lights would I need?. I will be doing a mixed reef leaning toward more softies, right now I have 23 leathers, two goni's one hammer, several candy canes, numerous zoo's and paly's.
