AI Hydra Settings Thread

I will be getting my AI Director this weekend. At the moment I don't have any coral as I did a reboot of my tank three months ago. Once I have the Director the tank will be ready for corals. Can't wait!

maybe this has been covered......but are most using director or awm module??? seems like awm module doesn't have the full features of the director. can anyone comment on this?

considering getting these and am looking at all options to control them

Current settings. Trying some stuff out. Matched sonicbooms settings to see what kinda colors we can get! Lol

Yes not all options I like the auto moon light that apex dose not have that's easy to use but might as well apex program works flawless with the fusion.
Can't do fiji lighting or fancy stuff like that it's fine but why is the apex model more expensive should be same price for how much less it gets option wise.

This sps with arrow is the one that was brown until I adjusted settings, it's now developing a green skeleton with pink polyps.

Is your uv still at 55%?

I have mine at 40% but i am halfway through a 4 month 30% acclimation so that percentage doesn't really tell a lot. I have noticed more color since i lowered my white to 45% but i also started dosing Acropower around the same time so i don't know which one helped more.

No my UV is at 30% to match the white

How does moonlighting work as far as setting it correctly. Can it be on 12am to 12am? Or does it go on after sunset until sunrise? etc...

i just got the rail kit in today and i am going to install it tomorrow morning when lights are off, i have the ext rail kit on but it just seems like to much darkness in front of tank where rocks slightly overhang. so hopping that turning the hydras perpendicular to the tank may give me better spread for my dimensions.

gagonzalez: I've been acclimating for 6 weeks with a 40% reduction in all colors. This was thru trial and error though. In total, probably 2 months at a eying percentages.

As folks can attest to here, though, just keep an eye on your corals to see how they react. My frogspawn got fried, others have some bleaching, and others found too much reds lead to an algae bloom. Keep a close eye and don't hesitate to dial up or down or move corals around. Trial and error and patience. Good luck.

I haven't tried the 12am to 12am cycle, but I wouldn't do it. The moonlighting follows phases of the moon. So if you are in moonlighting 24hrs and it's a new moon, your lights will be off for 24hours. I suggest give the moonlighting a shot for a few hours in the evening and watch how it behaves over the moon cycle.

It's neat, but I'm mostly home only during nights so I was bummed when I couldn't see my tank. Wish I could use it though.

So, I think I may be confusing terms here...but, when you mention moonlights, the hydra doesn't really have moonlights, per se, but it has a Deep Blue and Royal Blue LED. Those will be the LEDs to use to mimic the light of the moon. If you look at the settings I posted, you'll see around 730 or 8, that all the other LEDs are ramping down and the Blues are left.

I keep Deep Blue a tad higher than Royal blue. Around 10% or so.

If you want to use the Lunar cycle (which is what I thought you were talking about), you can set that effect on the effects tab. That will increase or decrease the intensities based on the current lunar cycle. However, to use this you must have a minimum of 5% intensity for an LED.

Make sense?

I have actually lowered mine to 3% at night. I like a few days of total darkness. I noticed I get more activity from some animals, like my brittle stars, when there are no lights at all. I believe Acclimation will play into that also.

A personal preference thing.

I do understand that there are technically no moonlights. I also understand that there is a lunar cycle but I guess i just don't understand what it does or how it does it.

From what you are explaining, I need to keep my Deep Blue and Royal Blues on a 24hr cycle at atleast 5% and then when the lunar cycle is turned on, it follows what the current moon is at and dims accordingly??? Is this correct?

Thanks again for your help.

Correct. Dims according to lunar cycle. I think I remember seeing a breakdown of how it does it somewhere on the AI website.
