AI Hydra Settings Thread

so I had a quick question, I just went from sols to hydras. On the sold I had blues at 85 and whites at 75. Do I need to acclimate from a low number still or can I start those colors where I left off?

definitely acclimate, these pucks are not the same as the sols, you can probably set those numbers as your final settings with a 2-3 month acclimation.

I would do a greater reduction and a longer acclimation. Something along the lines of 50% and 4 months. It is cautious, but corals can handle a sudden decrease in light just fine but not necessarily a sudden increase. Take your time.

To echo this a bit, go slow with acclimation anytime you're increasing with these fixtures. From memory, I think I did a 40% reduction over 6-8 weeks. Not as cautious as Wazzel, but I think his recommendation is solid advice and would have followed it if I would have read it beforehand.
 
When I first set my 52 up I set it for a 50% reduction and 4 month acclimation. It took more like 6 months because of the partial resets every time I added a coral. I was super cautions because of the warnings I read of LEDs burning corals.

I looked, but could not find the specs on the sol LED's, does anyone know?
 
Sols are 75 watt at full power. 40 and 70 degree optics. 24 diodes. I would say the sols are more intense directly under the fixture if ran at 100%. However, I Def agree on a slow acclimation. Brown will recover, once bleached, meh.
 
Got an email from PA as well, this morning. Dang, have had my 26's about a month and a half. Interested if this relates to new product launch, excess inventory, or what.

One would think they "would" but they may be pushing the smaller more compact lights. The prime has an 18" x 18" footprint which is pretty good. Plus, no director needed. But who knows, really. They'll get everyone on board with these, and then come out with another one soon!

Im assuming I would need 3 of these for my 60" 100g..?

The prime unit uses 1 of the same pucks used in the 26 and 52. Looks like a nano tank light to me. Might try one on my frag tank when it is up since it is just a 20 long.
 
I don't know if everyone knows this so I thought I would post the aqua illuminations just came out with the native Android app for the director and the new prime LED fixtures
