AI Hydra Settings Thread

When I first set my 52 up I set it for a 50% reduction and 4 month acclimation. It took more like 6 months because of the partial resets every time I added a coral. I was super cautions because of the warnings I read of LEDs burning corals.

I looked, but could not find the specs on the sol LED's, does anyone know?
I was wanting to know your advice and if I could use your settings? I have a standard 29 gallon with sps on other coral. I am just now starting with sps and recently bought the hydra 52. It is about 10 inches above the tank. Where can I find your settings and any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks.

Just looking for suggestions here.

A 29 is not as deep as my 60. If it were me I would scale back from what I do now on a tank that deep. I have posted my setting in a couple of places. I have no problem with you or anyone using them. Be advised it is at your own risk. I will put a copy of my setting in my tank thread so they are easy to find in the future. Give me a few minutes.

pair of hydra 26's

I have had my pair of hydra 26's up and running for almost a month. (Replaced an 8 bulb current nova extreme that had seen better days.) Lights are hung 12 in above my 75gal display. I used the acclimation settings to ramp the intensities up to my desired color configuration Over a 2 week period. I have had 0 bleaching of corals, but did experience a coraline algea die off. Not sure if the die off was due to the brightness of the LEDs or what seemed like a sudden bloom of asterina starfish, (enter harlequin shrimp.) Either way im not heart broken over the loss. Overall im very pleased with the performance of the lights.

Different coralline algae will grow with different light intensities, I have turned over rocks with pink coralline growing with little to no light which then bleaches when it's under full light and overgrown with two shades of purple.

Ok, guys.A little up needed.Got a outbreak of cyno going on .I believe its because of feeding a little to much, and increase in my red and green. My thought since I'm seeing such good results from my sps with the lighting, just contine run gfo and cut back with the feeding.?

Sadly this is more for the chemical or its own thread that has been talked about since the beginning of time. I went through the same thing and will say it is not the red or green that promotes Cyano since it is a bacteria.

Thats what i wanted to here.I wanted to make sure it wasn't red or green contributing to the break out.I will tackle this with husbandry .Thanks

I have 0 nitrates and phosphates but am experiencing some black cyano. Only thing I changed was my led intensity. Questioning...

What worked for me on cyano - 3 days lights out and dose with a bacteria to out compete the cyano. Slowly ramp up the the lights after the 3 days.

Lets try and stray away from these questions. Yes, it can take part from lighting, but most likely a nutrient issue. Like feeding too much or other... Plenty of threads about that.

Let's try and stay on topic of lighting and all that. :D

I wanna swap my Hydras for 52s. I think my blues are going out again, so I put in an email to Justin to see about upgrading. Dont need whats in the "upgrade kit" so I was curious. We'll see what he says.

I love my Hydras but I'm really liking the Radion Gen 3 pros. SOOOOO sic but also SOOOO expensive! haha Hydra 52s would be perfect for me! :P

Hey Greg, as a Hydra user I'd value your opinion. I have a 75G with 2 Sol Blues. Thinking about upgrading and as always budget is a factor. Would Hydras work with SPS or do I need 52's? Don't need to spend more than necessary but don't want regrets either. Thanks for your input.

I would most definitely get the 52. Hydras will do a darn good job but the 52s would be that much better. More power, better coverage and over all better for the corals especially SPS! Theres a reason why they came out with it. I kinda think the Hydra came out too soon, and we ALL did the R&D here so they ended up with the Hydra 52! Save some extra dough and go big from the start. Hydras are great, but the 52 is that much better!

If I where you I would just make the jump to the latest and greatest hydra 52
Ya, what reeftub says! haha :lol:
