AI Hydra Settings Thread

I've had these settings for a while and love em. I would love to know what settings are best for photography. Cuz so far nothing
is w AI! Haha photography settings would be epic

New Owner: Hail Hydra

New Owner: Hail Hydra

So I upgraded from a JBJ Pacifica light (came with the tank, but the leds starting dying within a year) to a Hydra 26. It's on a 45 gallon, about 26 x 18 display tank and about 18 down. I have the lights about 11 inches above the tank.

Love the lights and director but trying to figure out settings is a bit overwhelming. Like another poster here, I emailed AI to get the standard 'hey, whatever works for you man!' which is probably mandated by their legal dept so if their advice doesn't work, I can't sue them for bleaching my coral.

In any case, I've been trying different settings advised here and the acclimation times seem to vary greatly - weeks to months. I'm trying to approximate the old lights to the new - old had 16 3 watt diodes of 12,000k, 16 3 watt diodes of 20,000k and 1 1 watt actinic.

Currently my setting is UV 30, V60, DB100, RB100, GR25, R25, CW80 (can't help it, don't like blue tanks :) ) Reduction is on 30% for 3 weeks.

LPS (duncan and candy cane, both mid tank) seem happy as does the softies (GPS and mushroom polyp on sand and sinularia something mid tank). But oddly my small zoa patch (high) has closed up 50%. Nothing has moved since the light switch but I wonder - have I decreased the light too much from the old setup?

Any advice appreciated - trying to sort through all the posts and try different things, but it's the zoas I'm primarily confused on.

Thanks in advance!!!!

AI Hydra Settings Thread

Yesterday I installed my new Hydra 56 over my 50 cube. I have a couple of questions.

1.). The "new" controller does not work when unplugged from a power source,...should it?

2.). Will the controller do an update wirelessly or do I have to plug into my pc?

3.) Some of the settings from others list more color options than my controller shows,..such as up to 3 white options?

4.) The light shipped with all colors at 80%,...any danger running colors at higher levels?

1.). The "new" controller does not work when unplugged from a power source,...should it? No it needs constant power.

2.). Will the controller do an update wirelessly or do I have to plug into my pc?Once you have it setup on your network, it will update wirelessly.

3.) Some of the settings from others list more color options than my controller shows,..such as up to 3 white options? Probably the Apex, Director only has one White.

4.) The light shipped with all colors at 80%,...any danger running colors at higher levels? Absolutely unless you came from the same light or have no corals, press the button on the back to lower it manually until you get the director setup

I would error on the caution side and start them lower than factory and ramp up over several months. I run 100% on B, B, V and 90% on all the rest using 2 units on a 60 cube, so yes you can run them higher. The point source nature of LEDs make them real intense so give your corals time to adjust.

You will have to get someone with experience with the controller to answer the other questions.

Im running 3 hydra 26's on my 125 with the whites and uv at 60% and all the other colors at 100% and this has been like this for 10 months.

This is a new tank setup,...nothing but some live rock in the tank at this time.

I was more concerned with damage to the lights running them at 100%,...I am aware of acclimation.

I do not recall ever hearing of a burn in time or anything. No reason to have the lights high or even on while cycling. I started with mine off for a few weeks then started real low and slow bringing them on line to try and manage any algae bloom.

Now Wazzel,...you really think I can resist playing with my new light? Lol

By the way thanks for the mount,..worked out great!

How low did you brought down the lighting to ?

Well, no actually. I played with mine when the tank was empty too. It helped me get a handle on how the lights interact.

Glad you got it in good shape. If you even need a par meter for checking things out let me know, I got one just sitting around.

I really do not remember, it has been almost 2 years. If I had to guess I would say I ran it at 10% for a week or so, the 20%, etc, etc, etc......

Once I put corals in I ran it differently.

Have been experiencing diatoms issues on the sand bed even though I have been siphoning the sand bed . That's why I have been changing . Any recommendation?

Same one I have been giving you for a while. Pick a setting and leave it be. Your problems are not light related. You have husbandry issues to sort out.

Well I got myself into a pickle and I'm hoping y'all can help me out. I moved apartments and thus moved my system. I set up internet at my new house and had to connect my director to that new network, when I did so it dumped all of my setting for my Hydra. I just assumed that it would all be saved with my login on AI but unfourtanetly it was not. I am hoping that some of y'all that are getting good growth can pm me your setting so I can have a baseline on what to go on and tweak it from there. Currently I have a AI Hydra over an IM 38 with a couple rose bubble tip anemones, a brain, a plate montipora, and a encrusting montipora. All my coral has been under that Hydra for over a year so they are adjusted to LED lighting. Thanks in advance.

With AI they recommend the lights at 5% at night. The issue is that Im not use to tjat setting as moon lights. Im use to blue light, what do you guys set as moonlights?
