AI Hydra

With the new firmware, it'll automatically detect the lights so you don't have to specify Hydra/Vega.

Perhaps it a matter of preference, but the whites on the Hydra is more than enough for me. I don't think I'll ever run the white at more than 60-70%.. they are currently at 30% for acclimation and seems plenty bright to me.

Just wondering if anyone else is having an issue with the Lunar Cycle setting, since the last firmware update the minute my lunar cycle was to kick on, my lights would turn off. after a week of troubleshooting with support i decided to switch the AM/ PM of the lunar cycle and low and behold, the lights came on. So right now i have Region Setting for Florida Keys, and Lunar Cycle from 9AM to 5PM . If i set lunar cycle to 9PM -5AM (the way it should be) the lights turn off after the region settings end.

finally some good input on the hydras! im doing my first tank and bought these lights online yesterday. does anyone know if you need the controller if you have a neptune apex controller? was wondering if i could save myself 90 bucks and not buy the hydra controller as i have the apex

Apex can't control either the AI Hydra or Vega. You need either the AI controller or wait for the Director release latter this year.

i just hung mine from the ceiling and changed my settings, I am now running at 47% for all colors with red at 46% and night mode at 1% on dark blue, however now that i have lunar cycle working again the night mode changes nightly from about 1% to 3%.

Note: i was not able to use the massive butterfly nuts included in the hanging kit so i used a 2 1/2" coarse thread Kreg screw to go into the 2x4. worked like a charm.

I had just bought three hydras. So far I love the color spectrum. I didn't purchase the controller when I bought them as I thought my profilux was capable of controlling them like the sol. I had purchased the profilux to ai cables and everything thinking they could be connected. I like the idea of the director and the ai controller is nice but I wish my profilux could control them.

So my light setup is using the auto programming.

At peak it's using:

CW: 75%
V: 100%
DR: 55%
G: 55%
DB: 100%
RY: 100%
UV: 100%

Sunrise: 5:35am
Sunset: 6:30pm
Ramp Time: 4
Favor: Blues
Region: Caribbean

So far I like the colors, and the corals I've noticed are coloring up more, especially greens.

I wish it would let you pick the region and set the sunrise sunset times. I would like great barrier reef with sunrise 630 sunset 830.

Both lens on the Hydra and the Vega are plastic. The Vega has a clear TIR lens, while the Hydra has a "diffuse" TIR lens for better color blending (less disco effect). If you are looking at the LED light itself, the Vega may look brighter because of its clear lens.

I had 2 Hydras and 1 Vega running on my 150 and I prefer the Hydra over the Vega because of the spectrum... and the lower price tag. The tank is now running with 3 Hydras and I LOVE them :D

What are you using to raise the lighting rails? Is that something you made or something you purchased?

Would you happen to have any before/after pictures?

For that matter does anyone have AI Sol Blue -> Vega Color and/or Hydra before/after pics? I have 8 AI sol blues and am trying to figure out if I want to upgrade them.

I can't decide on which AI to buy. Hydra or vega for my 96x24x32 tall. Anyone have pics of corals under AI Hydra?

The top to the hydra fan has this plastic grill that seems very flimsy.

That removable 'flimsy' plastic came in handy when I got a piece of string tangled into a running fan. Also, over time I imagine my three Hyrda fans are going to collect a fair amount of dust that I will want to clean off so a removable plastic screen is okay by me
