Aiptasia Control

vinegar in a syringe worked for me. just jab and pump aptasia full of vinegar. otherwise, keep trying peppermints til one works. went thru three peppermints til one took care of all the aptasia. maybe i should sell it as a proven aptasia eater.

Better yet... BREED that mofo and then sell his babies on the RC black market!!! :lmao: I'd buy them. I've been through peppermint shrimp three times as well...and nothing...

Where can we buy syringes without prescriptions? I've asked Rite Aid they they do require one. Any ideas? got some aiptasias that I need to control in my reef tank.

You can have the option of buying one box of Joe's Juice and it'll provide you with one syringe. You'll find that the syringe in the Joe's Juice box is better for this purpose because the needle is bigger than medical needle and it won't get clogged.

In my 75 gallon I had between 50 & 75 aptasia. I bought 24 Peppermint shrimp from eTropicals.com (Free Shipping on these) and within 3 weeks all of tghe aptasia were gone. I had tried every other method with no luck. I will always recommend the shrimp in the future.

Does a PP shrimp fight with a cleaner shrimp? Does it leave the zoos and xenias alone?

IME if the pepps have something else to eat in the tank they will go for that before they even consider aiptasia. So if you feed your fish often...they'd rather pickup the fish food leftovers instead of picking on aiptasia.

has anyone ever tried superglue? I tried it lately and it seemed to work. It just might be an eye sight for a while, but gluing the sucker in is FUN!

You do that underwater?

well, i usually had a small rock that had them on, but it's the same like fragging

...so then when you want to get rid of the aiptasia you take the whole rock out and superglue them?

I've tried Joes and kalk paste but they still came back. I've also put in berghi's and peppermint shrimp with little success. I now have a copper Banded Butterfly that works great. So far, at 6 + months, he's still going strong.

I've noticed with Joe's Juice and Aptasia Control that it seems to make them spread, but just keep going at them and they'll perish. I started out with 20 in my tank, all that is left is 1 that I'm too lazy to destroy.

from my experience yes. The cleaner shrimps are bigger than the peps so they keep them in their place. So the cleaner shrimps take over the left side of my tank and the peps the right (altho i wonder if they're still around. haven't seen them in ages).

Kusanagiz,

Good question. My tank is so packed with LR that I rarely saw the pepps after I added them. To be honest I wasn't too concerned as the Aptasia was such a huge problem. More than likely my Marine Betta ate a few, a few died and many are left.

CoralGoodie,

The 2 Cleaners in my tank are doing just fine. I can't say if they attacked any of the pepps. The Xenia and Zoos did just fine.
