Air draw on the Tunze 9420 skimmer pump?

Hi Roger, I am considering buying a new pump for my ATB 840 skimmer that has a bit more air draw on it. The skimmer is an 8" cone and is 20.5" tall. Can you tell me if the 9420 would be a good match to my skimmer? Is the 9420 a modified Sicce pump? I really want to get away from Sicce pumps. Thanks.

The new Tunze silence pumps are Tunze's own design, they are no longer a modified PSK2500. While I personally don't think you will have much if any of a performance difference, especially if you are using the large pinwheel, the gain would be if you are having start up issues.

I think you will get ~900 lph on an 840 body, perhaps a bit more.

The 9420 hydrofoamer gets fantastic reviews for reliability and silence. It does not have the features that trouble PSK-2500 while still pulling lots of air.

The hydrofoamer has the volute molded to motor, needlewheel molded on to the magnet (eliminates start-up issues), neodymium drive magnet for more torque & lower watts, unidirectional start up, fixed ceramic shaft (quieter), and Roger customer service.

That is what I would go for....

Cheers.

Wow, 7 years later and I still have an ATB 840! Roger, does Tunze still make the 9420 skimmer pump? Thanks!

Yes they do and make sure you get the new magnet they are grey now. Nothing really wrong with the old ones my usually last about 3 years.
