Just some pictures from this weekend I spent in Homer at my parent's house... it's a pretty active spot as far as critters are concerned.

He ripped my dad's bird feeder out of the tree and took it off into the woods. I could hear him crunching up the plastic but couldnt see him, but he made short work of it.

Here he is climbing the ladder to get to the bird food my dad puts up on this big blue thing (actually a hammock stand)...

And then some others... the cool thing is the moose, bird and bear pictures were all taken within about 50 feet of each other, just at different times during the weekend.

These are great photos Recty. I love the twin moose (meese?). Very nice, although I'm not too sure I'd enjoy being near the bear so much. He seems awfully smart-being able to climb a ladder and all.

A bear who voluntarily climbs ladders! Now that's adventurous spirit! And the baby moose (mooselets?) are sooooo cuuuuuuuute.

My mother gets bears on her property in Montana but they've never helped themselves to the bird feeders nor the "playground equipment".

Thanks for sharing. Hope you're getting some sleep.

That's cool Grant but I hate to see a wild bear getting food. That almost never ends well.

I 100% agree. My parent's hate it as well. My mom is worried when she goes out to work in her garden and my dad doesnt like it eating his bird food.

He isnt going to feed for a couple weeks, the bear will migrate on through and wont be back, then he will resume feeding the birds.

Up here, if you deliberating are feeding bears you get nailed for bear baiting and it's a pretty steep fine plus jail time, so even if he liked the bear being at his house he would stop for a while :)

Is that a Phesant? Do we have them wild up here? That is something I have not seen (yet). I passed a bear (literally) riding my bike (bicycle) to work the other day! He was sort of coming out of the woods onto the road and I noticed a big black thing....and as I rode by him with him looking at me trying to decide what the heck I was, I processed "oh, there's a bear" :). Of course I didn't have my camera (even the P&S that I bought specifically for times like that, ugh). I stopped up the orad, had a staring contest with him while he decided if it was safe to cross the road.

Had a baby moose in my yard last night. They were way to deep in the trees to get a good shot though. Looks like you got a bunch of nice images there though. Nice to have good light to foster shutter speed!

I think that's probably why they are so easy to train for the circus, they arent stupid.

The little moose are indeed cute, I was glad I saw a pair. We saw other ones on Friday night heading down to Homer but I was going down the highway at 70 and wasnt going to stop to take pictures.

Great photos!
Thanks.

that is awesome! my grandparents live in Achorage and have a home in fairbanks. love it up there!
Alaska is nice, especially in the summer. I wish the winters werent so long though...

Yep, there are wild pheasants in Homer. They arent native to Alaska, someone brought them here a while back and they took off down here, but I havent seen any other than in Homer. We get quite a few around my parent's place because of all the bird seed on the ground. They are going to be ticked off for a few weeks until he resumes feeding.

Yes, the light was nice for the moose pictures although for the bear it sucked. The sun was behind him and it's REALLY hard to expose for a black object with the sun on the wrong side of him, but I guess it turned out OK. Nothing like the detail I was able to bring out in the moose though.

Great Pictures!

I love the little Mooselets!

Great shot of the pheasant (ringneck).
I raise Ringneck Pheasants and bobwhite quail, it is nice to see shots of these guys in the wild!

All of your pictures make me hate the fact that I live in a city. The only wildlife I have to photograph are the local drug addicts and bums. The druggies are kind of clever like the bear, so thats a plus.

LOL - :wavehand:, as fun as tthose chareters are the lack of real wildlife, awesome panoramic vistas, and nature is why I left that big overpaved place that used to be home on the East Coast!

I keep wanting to move to a bigger city (Anchorage is only about 280,000 people) but doing photography has actually made me want to stay here. The opportunities are amazing sometimes :) It's nice having my parent's house about a 5 hour drive away as well, that place is photography central.

I don't post here much... But thank you for sharing those amazing shots! They brought a smile to my face!!!

Amazing shots!!!
