Well, it appears that SoCal got a wave of gigs lately, cause a few LFS's had some stock just arriving this past week.
Jamie found hers in Pasadena and I saw several in Huntington Beach...and what a beauties! I couldn't believe my eyes as they had 3 left, a purple a blue and a bright green, also a large 14"+ inch magnifica with dark green tentacles and light tips with purple base.
I really wanted the green, but it wasn't in good shape, the mouth was gaping open and I didn't feel like babysitting it as I am already dealing with a tiny 2-1/2 inch bleached gig I found a week ago. The choice fell between the blue and the purple, both were XXL, at least 12-14". I chose the purple because it was the one in better shape with almost 1/2 inch long tentacles. A rare sight. The thing is large! Way bigger than I wanted, but I just could not resist.
I placed it in my frag tank (24x24x12) together with the baby gig. I might move the small gig in my DT, as it has already been in qt for over a week and seems to be doing ok.
I don't think the purple needs Septra, it is looking good so far and I do not want to treat if I don't have to. What do you guys think?
It is perched on a rock so, if it stays inflated and looks good, I'll be able to put it together with the rock in my DT after I keep it under observation for a few days.
Blue Gig at the LFS. Unfortunately not much I could do about the color as it was under actinics. It was pale blue and must have been at least 16" once fully inflated. I didn't choose this because the purple had much longer tentacles and was a couple inches smaller.

This is the XL dark green tentacles with purple base Magnifica I saw together with the gigs this morning. Sorry about the crappy photo, it was planted with the foot on the side of the frag tank and there were tons of reflections.

And here's the purple gig as soon as I arrived home getting ready to drip acclimate. It's bleached, but it is in good shape and if all goes well in a few months it will look real nice.

Just went in the frag tank and a little stressed out. The baby gig is about 3".
Photos look a bit hazy because I need to polish the acrylic

After about 1 hour it began inflating more and positioned itself balancing better on top of the rock.

Now it is looking a bit better. Tentacles are lengthening just a little more then when I first put it in the tank.

Close up....

I'll post some more updates later.
