Alex's purple gigantea

Well, it appears that SoCal got a wave of gigs lately, cause a few LFS's had some stock just arriving this past week.
Jamie found hers in Pasadena and I saw several in Huntington Beach...and what a beauties! I couldn't believe my eyes as they had 3 left, a purple a blue and a bright green, also a large 14"+ inch magnifica with dark green tentacles and light tips with purple base.

I really wanted the green, but it wasn't in good shape, the mouth was gaping open and I didn't feel like babysitting it as I am already dealing with a tiny 2-1/2 inch bleached gig I found a week ago. The choice fell between the blue and the purple, both were XXL, at least 12-14". I chose the purple because it was the one in better shape with almost 1/2 inch long tentacles. A rare sight. The thing is large! Way bigger than I wanted, but I just could not resist.

I placed it in my frag tank (24x24x12) together with the baby gig. I might move the small gig in my DT, as it has already been in qt for over a week and seems to be doing ok.

I don't think the purple needs Septra, it is looking good so far and I do not want to treat if I don't have to. What do you guys think?

It is perched on a rock so, if it stays inflated and looks good, I'll be able to put it together with the rock in my DT after I keep it under observation for a few days.

Blue Gig at the LFS. Unfortunately not much I could do about the color as it was under actinics. It was pale blue and must have been at least 16" once fully inflated. I didn't choose this because the purple had much longer tentacles and was a couple inches smaller.

This is the XL dark green tentacles with purple base Magnifica I saw together with the gigs this morning. Sorry about the crappy photo, it was planted with the foot on the side of the frag tank and there were tons of reflections.

And here's the purple gig as soon as I arrived home getting ready to drip acclimate. It's bleached, but it is in good shape and if all goes well in a few months it will look real nice.

Just went in the frag tank and a little stressed out. The baby gig is about 3".
Photos look a bit hazy because I need to polish the acrylic ;)

After about 1 hour it began inflating more and positioned itself balancing better on top of the rock.

Now it is looking a bit better. Tentacles are lengthening just a little more then when I first put it in the tank.

Close up....

I'll post some more updates later.

Thanks! Yeah finally got one. Now I just have to hope it keeps acclimating well. Yep, that's where I got it from. They had about 5 and they're all gone. Whoever took the green better know how to deal with it cause that one definitely needed treatment.

Finger crossed it does well. 🙏. They aren't cheap (even on "special" lol) or common to replace easily. PS I was there Thursday and picked up some fish.

Compared to DD and other online sellers they are a major bargain. I like Seaside, it's just a drag for me to drive over an hour each way to get there, but maybe it's a good thing ;)

Since it came from a good source I would be surprised if anything went wrong. David, Seaside owner, showed me his $10,000 UV sterilizer system in the store when I expressed a concern about potentially getting fish with Ich. So it seems he's willing to spend $ as opposed to other stores that only take shortcuts.
Not to call it a guarantee but still always good to buy from a good source.

What kind of clownfish, if any, do you have?

Yes, he has an impressive setup indeed. No fancy 1000 gallon show tank, but his livestock seems healthy. Also one of the few places I've seen that has filtered ocean water.

My clowns are regular true perculas, for my next tank I'll probably get something more exotic like A.perideraion or akallopisos as their natural hosts are H.magnifica and S.gigantea ;)

I never get tire of staring at my anemone. Just don't have the time.

:)

I hear you :) Good thing it's a weekend. The only reason that made me get up at 7am on a Sunday.
Was still inflated and curiously moved from the rock with the crevice I originally put it on, to a flat one, and stayed put all night, which tell me it likes flat surfaces better.

As soon as I saw it it was expelling medium/dark waste, it was not as inflated, but as soon as I did a 30% water change and turned on the light it finished expelling and perked up again.

The first thing I saw in the morning....

And after the water change and all cleaned up with some turkey baster action.

This afternoon I will try to feed it something little and see how it responds.
