Algae filter

Hi guys,
I'm going to build up my own algae (chaetomorpha) filter. I'm going to use MR1 reactor and 30W led grow light.
The only question is what flow is needed to go thru. How strong pump I do need?
Thanks.

I have had (chaetomorpha) filters in sumps with tons of flow and in small seperate tanks fed by just a small powerhead and had great growth. That said I also use a 250W MH lamp. I could typically get a trash bag full in a couple weeks from just a handful. Every time I tried some other small bulb I never had much growth. That's my experience.

For my coral tank, I'm right now setting up a large Chaetomorpha fuge (44 gallon Brute) and plan on using a Kessil H380 Halo II as light.
On the fuge compartment of my haddoni biotope tank, I'm using a PAR 38 grow LED bulb and the Chaetomorpha there grows quite well.

As for the flow, you need enough to keep the Chaetomorpha ball afloat and rotating so that all sides get light and nutrients. And you want to have enough water throughput to make an impact on the main tank. I try to have the entire main tank volume pass through the fuge at least once per hour.
