algae mess

I added a phosban reactor to my sump on Thursday. Today I was looking in the fuge and my grape macro seems to be dying off. Its basically turning brown and becoming really limp. I just spent the last hour pulling brown muck out of the fuge.

My other macros seem ok for now. I keep the fuge light on 24/7 and I've had the macro for about 2-3 months without any issues. It mostly came with my liverocks.com rock. They threw about 2-3lbs of it in to get up to the 30lbs of rock that I ordered.

Anyway, I'm about to go measure my phosphates but has anyone else seen something like this? I guess it could be going sexual but its strange that it happened two days after the addition of the reactor.

A sudden drop in phosphates will effect the macro algae. Racemosa does not seem to be as hardy as some of the other macro algae in this reguard. I had the same thing happen to my racemosa when I added a lot of other macro algae (tang heaven, chaeto, mangroves, ulva, etc). Now, a few months later, the racemosa appears to be starting to grow again. I removed the tang heaven and ulva).

Just wondering, how come you removed the tang heaven and the Ulva???? Were they causing problems or did the tangs just eat it all?

I covet those :D I don't covet C. racemosa :D
