Algae Scrubbers? Do people use them?

I remember a few years ago these were the rage. But it died off. Do people still use them or do you find other ways of filtering? I ran a fowlr and had good luck and want to build one again. So just getting opinions from long term use.

I use one and it's worked better for me than running with just a skimmer. Long story. I started my one 40g reef with just scrubber only for 2 years. Worked well. I tried running just a skimmer and ended up adding back a scrubber because the tank faired much better. So today I run with both.

There are still a fair amount of folks still running them. As the algae threads pop up weekly, there is usually a recommendation or two for them.

Ok cool. I was figuring I'll order precut acrylic 1/4" from tapp lactic and make a nice professional looking one.

I have used them for 3 years with great success. I have not had hair algae, or any nuisance algae for that matter. A member here on RC, Floyd_R_Turbo makes some very nice ones. I use his, on both my 150g and 90g.

HERE is a sticky thread in the advanced section here on RC, that is dedicated to ATS's.

I've always been a fan of harvesting algae in some way. Used to run a refugium and macros.

Currently I've been running a Turbos Aquatics ATS. Great turf scrubber with a lot of attention to detail.

I'm a big fan of an ATS. I had one running for quite a while before I moved. I didn't bother to setup the sump since I am upgrading soon (except that got delayed by a couple months due to the stand build). I kinda wish I had now but my new tank will definitely have an ATS. Now, I'm just debating on if I want a skimmer or more room for a fuge.

I like growing pods so I don't think I'll lose my refugium section in tank as I like my mandarins and gobies.

Just trying to figure out how best to add a ats. To a 55g sump build
