Algaefix Marine Dosing in progress

I had great results using the same regimen as you're trying. Extremely dramatic results, would be a good way to put it.

The only potential problem was that I lost all of my trochus snails, which could be a coincidence but I don't think it was.

After resolving my major GHA problem and doing several water changes, I have trochus in my tank again with no issues.

Thanks Muppet. I'll keep a watch out for inverts acting strangely. I am on dose 3 as of this morning.

I had the hair algea problem in my tank. After testing the perameters I brought the magnesium level up it took about 3 weeks and it eventually I thendid a series of water changes and the problem hasn't come back. Just something to check into. Good luck

I brought my magnesium up with Tech M to a ridiculous level, over 2000, with no results whatsoever on my GHA. Algaefix Marine worked in 3 weeks.

You sure it wasn't bryopsis you killed? I had gha at the same time I tech m dosed [and killed] bryopsis but it did nothing to the gha.

Dose 3 just now and as of tonight, I would say that I have about 50% less algae than I did when I started dosing and the algae that is still present has stopped or slowed in growing. For the past 10 months or so, I would pluck as much as I could during a water change on Saturdays and by mid week it had all grown back just as long as it was and had spread to a new place in the tank. I am absolutely astounded that this is working and if the success rate continues I will follow the company's weekly maintenance dose suggestions to keep algae away. I will post pics of the entire process once the algae is gone. Shouldn't be long at this rate.

As far as concerns that I have they are minor. I am lacking GFO and GAC right now because even though the package instructions don't specify that you should remove it from your filtration, I did so at the advice of some folks in the Chemistry forum. My po4 has risen from 0.01 to 0.03 in the past week. Nothing terrible and I will get it back under control as soon as possible. Thanks everyone for following along.

If it was the gfo keeping po4 down and you removed it because you are using algaefix how do you intend to lower the po4 if you will keep weekly dosing with af and keep the gfo out do to that?

sounds like a plan! Hurry up and roll those dice,I have a gnarly case of hair algae I want to thin a bit!

I wouldn't hold out then. This stuff is working like a charm. I am shocked that it is not more widely used and touted. My algae today is about 80% gone and I am only on my third dose. I also had a few fronds of bryopsis that is melting away so it works on that as well.

I am also dosing this right now, however left my purgin and chemi pure elite in as well as skimmer, bio reactor etc still running. This will serve as an example of results leaving these items in. Question, are you dosing exact to label?

Thanks for running this experiment for us Pat. If you get results while leaving them in that would be fantastic! Keep us posted. I began dosing exact to the manufacturer's instructions but have since rounded up to exactly 4ml. I guesstimate that of my 46 galling tank there is roughly 32 gallons of actual water after factoring out rock, sand and coral. I have read that some have gone above and beyond, even doubling, but I'm not that brave. :)

Exactly what I was reading, which is why I started at 1.5 of the dosing. Sunday will be dose number two. Just for a starting point as well, I only have a small patch which has been stubborn to say the least. Bryopsis!

I was comfortable in going up slightly to 4ml also because the company claims that the compound is inert in 24 hrs after dosing. Rationalization is a scary and powerful thing.
