i never ask for lower price at lfs.either i buy it or pass.remenber this is not a flea market.all prices are clearly mark.

Well I dont deal with rude people either... but Tao isnt rude you are! When my tank crashed he lent me his van, filled it with water and let me use it as long as I needed... I have asked him to tare apart a pump off his shelf for parts...and had him look for nearly obsolite items, and he has found I m not sure what you do for a living... but I doubt you own a company... if you did you would see what you did was more than just improper... I dont like the price of things more than anyone else... but I dont treat reputable companys like they are flea markets. The next time you boss gives you a job to do at work why dont you ask your boss to compare your wage with what it would cost if a illegal did your job or someone in India or China and tell him that the only wage you will accept... That's the same as telling a Brick and Mortar that you will buy from the web if he dosnt lower his prices. You were PUT OFF by him asking you to leave? Your a waste of time and energy for a store owner to explain how buiness works! You have 3 count them 3 post all to trash the reputation of a store owner because of your arrogance!

that's not the point. a owner or worker should not have kick out the customer if he/she didn't like what they hear. he should had explain to the customer why the prices are high, instead of showing them the door. "great business = get out?" sorry but not everyone understand business like you do.

I don't think he actually said get out, but said that he can't get that price in the store. he might have been a bit mad/frustrated, but I doubt he raised his voice, pointed his finger out the door, and yelled "get out!".
I asked him if he could order a tank from oceanic / leemar and he said he would get a quote for me even though he doesn't usually deal through leemar.
Plus bob works there, he's awesome.

I was considering getting another Leemar tank and contacted them directly. They referred me to their N.Cal distributor, S & S Supplies in Fairfield. I called them up and they can give you a list of LFS that you can order from.
I ended up going with Socal Creations for my tank. Gen could not get me a good deal on polycast and he even told me to call Socal creations.

I went ahead and got a quote from socal today for my tank setup too, but ideally I'd like a starphire glass tank =/
what tank are you asking socal for? Have them make your stand and sump too, they'll make it all fit together perfectly =)

Yeah I was going back and forth with starfire glass vs acrylic. I loved the starfire but I didn't want to deal with potential problems with glass again after mine cracked and the wife was nervous about it. I'm actually going to use the same stand and canopy. The dimensions are similar to the leemar starfire I had except a bit taller.

Yes fees are, but I own the brokerage, and my fees are not. Poor analogy? why, please explain.... you want everyone to be the cheapest, why, because your cheap, so your employer should treat you the same! I usally dont hide out in the commode, .. but I do believe he did ask you to leave... I wouldn't blame him. When you go to Safeway do you go through you basket and complain that Albertson has a sale on product and Trader Joe's has a better price on that item.. dose it work?... one other post dosnt give you much of a reputation... the years of service that Tao has give him a much better reputation. Lessons in life are hard, you just learned one. You think you harmed his buiness by not shopping there? or do you think you can come on reef central trash his store and cause him to lose business? He was a chemist for Chevron, he may not have a bubbly personality, but he will usally go out of his way to help. How helpful are you?

I am sure it is a little more inbetween the "I can get this for $90 online" and then the "get out." But it is not uncommon for some type of haggling when it comes to high priced items and mom and pop shops. And I have seen it at almost every LFS I have been to including ones I've worked at.

OK Gentlemen.
We had someone trash a LFS with his second ever RC post over the shocking news that they charge more than online sources and they were allegedly rude to him.
Then, we had a lot and back and forth on that.
Now it's getting mean and nasty and the moderators will be jumping in soon.
Before then, let's just drop it and move on.

This is kind of silly. I think it's a natural reaction to be shocked at the price of goods in stores. I bought a pump at Brians Fish World and then when I was told the price, reversed the transaction. I told Brian the price on-line. We were both kind of shocked (this was a while back)
I wasn't told to "get out" and I wasn't rude about it.... but none of you were there so you have to take my word for it. We weren't there when rchal was there so we take his word for it OR we offer to support the character of the owner based on our experience with him.
I think both crazy and rchal are both over-reacting to each other here....
if my buddies busines was trashed, I'd be upset.
if I was told "Well I dont deal with rude people either... but Tao isnt rude you are! ", I'd be upset.
But you both have time to temper your responses and avoid escalating and coming across badly to the rest of us. Maybe try and see where the other is coming from and like others have tried to do in the thread suggest reasons why they guy acted like he did without attacking.

Not to add fuel to the fire but I have been to All About Fish many times. Depending on Tao's mood of the day, he can be very helpful or he can be just plain old nasty and condescending IME.
Agreed though, both rchal and crazzyreefer have overreacted on this thread. There's no need for the personal attacks from both parties.
Despite all that, I still rather like All About Fish a lot for their livestock selection and prices.
