It has been sighted in the following Home Depot stores:

Baltimore, MD
Germantown MD
Rockville, MD
Annapolis, MD
Ellicott City, MD
most other Wash DC metro area
Fredricksburg, VA
Springfield, VA
Fairfax, VA outside the D.C. beltway, on Merrifield Rd
Sterling, PA
Newton Square in Philadelphia, PA
Philadelphia, PA
Conshohocken, PA
Greenville, SC
Glasgow Home Depot, in Newark, DE
Newark, DE.

Add Hagerstown, MD to this list. I was there a few weeks ago and bought 250 lbs. At that time they had 1.5 PALLETS of the stuff left in their garden center. I plan on getting more for my refugium today. I'll let you know how much is left latter. Also, the guy I spoke to originally from the garden department in Hagerstown is first and foremost a reefer also. He said he "tries to make sure they have AT LEAST 2 skids on hand year-round." Direct quote from a fellow reefer, so I'm pretty sure it is valid.

Kevin, SD is just as good for a fish only tank. I will try to find the pic and post it here.

Not sure if this will help anyone in their search for SD, but when I lived in Rochester NY (about 3 years ago) I bought SD at Toys R' Us. Not sure if they still carry it though. I still remember dumping it into my sons sand box thinking "man this looks just like the stuff I use in my tank".

CALCITE

CALCITE

A friend here in CANADA purchased a product call CALCITE. it is exactly the same as SOUTHDOWN in size and color. He has done the vinegar test and the stuff has been in his tank for 6 months.
The stuff was like $5 a 50lb bag. He bought it from BUILDERS WAREHOUSE. and I think it is available at RONA.

I have a question.

I found a bag of SouthDown in my Grandmother's back yard. She said I could have it. But, its been outside for like..hmm...a few years maybe.. the bag is unopened from what I can see but it was wet inside..think its any good?

I wouldn't trust it. Would spend the $5 - $20 for a new bag (depending upon what type of sand you buy). The peace of mind makes the cost worthwhile.

I agree, it the sand got wet inside the bag you never know what lawn chemicals or bacteria could have gotten inside the bag.

playsand

playsand

I know this is a stupid question after everything I read but I guess I'm narotic.....I bought 4 bags of the right stuff(southdown carribian play sand, blue w/ red type). But on the bag it say's:

"not recomended for traction and aquarium use".

Is this just because of the business dealings?? Or did I get the wrong stuff?
