Allardi Clownfish

Hello All,

Has anyone here kept or have experience with Allardi clownfish? Anyone want to share? How big were they when they started laying, how did they act, etc etc. Did anyone notice a difference in coloration from the young as they grew up, or a color difference in the males/females? I have two who are now vigorously hosting my GBTA. It took the male a while to catch on, but the female caught on to hosting very quickly. The thing I'm noticing is that the male is far more dark in coloration and has less of the brown and more of the black (TBH I think he's by far the better looking). I'm not sure if his coloration is because he's a male or if it's because he's younger though. Any suggestions?

Also, are these guys hard to find or rare or anything? Now that I've been thinking about them more, I think I remember some people talking about how extremely hard to find these are, but that was a while back and I may/probably am wrong. I sort of just stumbled upon them and really liked them, and was in the process of trying to figure out what clowns to go with. So far I'm really happy with them and think they're super cool, plus not something everyone has.

Here's some pics of the male temp acclimating with my new midas. The female jumped out of the container when she saw the camera... I'll get some tank shots as soon as I can.

A few shots of right after they went in the tank:

Sorry about all the microbubbles. The sump level was low from the acclimation. These were just two of many fish that arrived in this order, so I managed to combine it with a good sized water change:rollface:

Nice clowns! I really like them. I recently picked up a couple for my FOWLR.

Thanks! So do I! Man, I just realized how aweful those last two pics really are... and I was embarassed about posting the ones of the male in the hang on box, lol.

i just got 2 myself for about 1.5-2weeks? they put them in my tank with my anemones and they dove right into it. very nice personality and luck i was that they are healthy and eat well, starting to eat out of my hands now. Other than that i have nothing else to share as i said i have them for less than 2 weeks.

Good luck, i love clownfishes.

I think your pics are great!! I have yet to capture the true blue color of the stripes, especially on the female...

I had a pair of HUGE Allardi's years back. When I got them they were already big and just kept growing and very aggressive. What I thought was the female (bigger of the two) was actually the male and he would beat the living @#$^@ out of her during spawning so I had to seperate them. They were like puppy dogs begging for food and following me when I walked by the tank. They would take huge chunks of shrimp out of my fingers.

Thanks all! Wow, I never even noticed the blue tinge to the stripes, I guess I just thought it was the actinics, but when I turned the actinics off it seemed to look blue-er if anything!

In ambient daylight/sunlight, they are blue with a tint of pink even. Crazy!
