Almost everything is dead :'(

Everything was going great, and everyone in the tank was happy. The clams were growing, the corals were growing, and the coral banded shrimp female had eggs under her tail.

Then I got the stupid Angel fish, and after they killed my clams and started going after my corals, it was time for them to go back to the store. I removed the clams as soon as I knew they were dead. But in the process of catching the angels I had to move my rock work around, which I think started some of the algae and other stuff on it to die off. and the ammonia started to rise.

I went to the pet store and got different products for the water, did water changes etc. and nothing seemed to help. The coral banded shrimp died, I think all the snails died, I think the star fish died, most all the corals died, and my bubble tip died, and now I just have the fish :'(.

At this point I don't know what I'm going to do :-(

sounds like you might have disturbed the sand bed..also the fish would be dead most likely if it was ammonia.. what kind of angel did you introduce?

I had a flame angel and a Emperor angel and I asked the guy and he said they might nip a little but not a lot :-P the flame wasn't that bad but the Emperor just wanted to eat everything, and I had it tested at the pet store and I don't remember what the level of ammonia was but they said it was pretty high. besides the ammonia everything was normal, the nitrate and nitrites were just starting to become elivated today :-(.

it wasnt N and P it was ammonia, and prolly the die off from the coral. lol as for picking an angel you should have done research! lol we all make those mistakes though its time to restart and go anew.

yeah I'm trying to stay positive about it but, I'm having a hard time :-P, I wonder how long it will take for it to cycle/ have the levels go back to where they were?

Give it 3 wks n it'll be good to go. Get an ammonia badge and prime from the pet store , I think the 1 by target has both. Then just wait for meter to read yellow and do some water chafes maybe even 40% off u feel nessicary to save everything. Also maybe try some cemipure elite activated carbon if you don't have a carbon reactor or activated Carson like rox or an equivalent

I'm very sorry to hear that this happened to you. I'm sure you have put a lot of time and money to get the tank to where it was. Hopefully you will rebuild it, and get it back to where you had it soon. If you need anything let us know. I'm sure we can help with some things.

Thank You :-) for the advice and the help offer, I removed the corals that were clearly dead, I just have some zoanthid polyps and Blue Sympodium Polyp that I think are still alive (how do you to tell if they are just mad and shut up vs. dead?). I added a product that was recommended to me by a friend, I think it's called Nite out? that has healthy bacteria in it to help bring the levels down and I did do a water change that didn't really effect the levels :-/. I added some carbon, and now am just going to wait for the levels to come back down. If anyone was planning on trimming their tank when my levels are back to normal any frags would be Greatly Appreciated :-)

sorry for the long delay, the container says it's activated filter carbon, it's loose, I put it into the media reactor with the phosphate remover media

i have only used rox carbon. but honestly i dont run carbon 24/7 it strips the water of vital minerals. and most dont feed enough as it is. esp for softies and or lps. for your application just a bag of chemipure would benefit you. cheap, no reactor cost and you can just put it in the sump/
