Almost Lost my 5 Year Old False Percula Clown

Good morning. I thought I was share this story as it has a good ending!

We almost lost "Nemo" last night. Nemo is my Oldest Daughters Clown fish and has been with us for (5) Years. He was Brought by Santa when she was two.

After feeding time I noticed Nemo was laying on the sand, which is not usual but she was breathing weird. So I start the quarantine tank as I thought she was sick and tried catching her. That fish is extremely fast, so it was just about impossible.

Finally she stopped and let me pick her up. I bring her closer to the lights and it she had something in her month...it a HUGE piece of shrimp and it was blocking her entire mouth. I tried pulling it out about 5 times but it was in there good.

At this point all three of my daughters are balling as Nemo's breathing is getting really slow......then she stops breathing... So I just go for it and pull it out....let me tell u the piece was huge! After it was out, she completely stopped breathing, moving and I thought she was died.

So I remember a scene in Jaw3 where they hook up a Great White to a water ventilator to get water circulating on the gills.. So thats what I did. I put her mouth close to a Powerhead discharge and she slowly came back to life in my hand! I had to hold her for about a half hour to get her normal. Then she bit me and swam off to her coral. The whole time this was happening her mate was just coming up to my hand checking me out.

I was SO happy that we observe the tank and its inhabitants very closely or she would have been gone.

Oh and I apologize for the Nemo reference but the girls name all the fish :)

Thanks for reading and Happy Monday; Tom

I've read between 6-10 in the wild and 10-15 in captivity

Also, captive bred specimens have been documented to live 25 years or more!

I'm hoping she makes it to 25 !

With (3) crying girls around me I thought about mouth to mouth :) Anything to make them stop crying!

With (4) girls living my house there is a lot of crying !
