Alternative to frozen brine/mysis shrimp

Can anyone suggest an alternative to the frozen brine/mysis shrimp that many LFS sell? I am having an ongoing battle with cyano and I've read that the gelatin in the frozen products is a contributor to the problem.

Get a brine shrimp net and rinse off the frozen food first. It will remove most of the phosphate other then that - use dry flake ocean nutrition formula 1.

I soak all frozen food in tank water until thawed then strain it through a fine net and discard the foul water. Then feed the food mixed in fresh tank water....started this a few years ago for that very reason contributing to unwanted alages....HTH

I do the same as Mike with regards to frozen foods. I've found it to be helpful in controlling nutrient content in the water and for keeping nitrates a little lower.

hmmm I guess I will do it to. I never have any sign of nitrates but who wants to take the chance.

Frank Even if you do this your going to have to ride the cycle out and keep at it. I have learned one great lesson from all these smart people on these boards. Nothing GOOD happens fast in a reef tank. You don't have allot in the tank right now so you might want to try a CYno cure like I did and use half the dose. I have some at the house if you want to give it a shot.

Thanks Mike, Eric, & Mr. Snoid, I started straining the frozen food this morning. Bob I'll see if I can hold off on the cyno cure and keep doing what I am doing, (but I'll keep your offer in the back of my head). I think this problem was attributed to my Skimmer not working properly for the first 12 wks, (my fault of course), I probably built up alot of undissolved food and such, (even though my nitrates are low).
