Am I ready for my first clam?

Ok, here's what I've got. Tell me what you think:

1 29 gal AGA tank (non-drilled)
1 10 gal sump (with 7-8 gals of water)
DIY canopy with four 55W PC bulbs and 6 LED moonlights
Aqua C Remora skimmer
HOT Magnum 250 canister filter
CSL 18W UV Sterilizer
and something called an Eco-Aqualizer(I'm not quite sure how this works, but it makes my tank remarably clear)
I'm hoping to build a refugium soon, but I do not have any concrete plans yet.

1 Yellowtail damsel
2 blue-green reef chromi
4 emerald crabs
10-15 assorted snails, mostly turbos

What kind of clam could I get given the light and the size of my tank? Where would I put it?

You're lighting would be sufficient for a Squamosa or Derasa, you could get away with a Maxima in the middle to top of the tank..

How long has the tank been setup.. Keeping a clam isn't too difficult as long as you have the right requirements and care.. They require good water quality, lots o calcium and lots o light...

If you plan on having a clam I'd take the UV sterilizer away, clams feed on planktonic foods ( naturally occurring ) in your aquarium, the UV kills all these off, which won't kill the clam, but you'd be better off without it...

To start off with I'd get a 3+ inch clam, they rely more on lighting at this size, anything below relies heavily on plankton.

Even with a 3" clam you should feed it phytoplankton. I believe lebowski was suggesting that once they reach a few inches they are not as reliant on high levels of supplemental feeding (phyto).

What is your opinion of 130 watts pc lighting for a clam? Will this be enough for any type of clam?

Bill

That's enough for a derasa, squamosa, or hippopus. I'd definately steer clear of maximas and croceas, they need more intense lighting than that. Good luck!
