Sofor the gf's birthday I bought her a purple tipped short tentacled anemone...did some looking this one is not really bleached white, it has decent darkened color, kinda creme colored and nice purple tips.. anyways we bring it home do some reading up, drip acclimate, and heard it likes sand so we dug a small hole in the sand of the spot we wanted it on the right side of the tank, wake up at 2am and the nem still hasn't attached, laying on its side, HUGE FOOT.... fine..bugger... put a small rock under the nem, placed it on that and went to sleep.. woke up and nem still hasnt attached... grrr...so now my filtration which is attached to the powerheads has been off for roughly 12 hours, getting worried, wanting to turn my powerheads on again (they are internal, cant get sucked in) read some more about people saying anemones choose the spot they want and go for "walkabouts" couldn't quite figure if they crawl around or float-ish around.. so i said forget it, turned on my 1 powerhead, then my other and the nem starts flipping and flopping moving with the current, dragging over my kenyan trees, my live rock, all looks painful and my girlfriend saying...its going to die its going to die....well 2 minutes later, it latched itself into a rock crevice near the bottom of the tank against the wall on the left side which is not where we wanted it to be due to the watchmen and tiger pistol having a cave right next to where he/she now chose to live....we shall see i guess

sorry for the long post.. just neevr thought of these guys as "thinking moving beings" "knowing" where they wanted to be and be able to get there :D

congrats on having it put it's foot down.

do you have a pic of the anemone, we can also ID it. could be a condy or sebae

The biggest problem with anemones is that they don't WANT to move, so people see them NOT moving and think they CAN'T move. This alone accounts for easily half of the powerhead, pump, overflow, etc. accidents that can occur. Glad yours didn't go that way.

I hope it's her tank and her hobby.

If it is your tank and your hobby, buying "her an anemone" on her birthday to put in your tank won't make her happy.:sad1:

no..def her tank, her hobby, but I act like the good little pool boy and do AT LEAST 50% of the maintenance....and I wont let her buy a puffer... god do I hate those beady eyed little pof ball freaks

Sounds like you may have a reef tank? In which case you wouldn't want a puffer anyway.
