amazing gorgonian

this gorg has surprised me again after all these years.

A lot of local people have this gorg so they already know how hardy it is... but check this out:

last weekend I removed the gorg from it's 'back of the bus' corner location and glued it into Junior's cave area.
Today (one week later) I was looking at the transplanted gorg and thought some of it's "arms" somehow got pinched in between the rocks so I tried to tug them free.... only to discover they had firmly attached and encrusted onto the vertical walls of the cave :spin2:

This thing likes to lay down "roots"!

I had the frag I got from you on a small rock near the rear of the aquarium.

After a while, several branches had attached to the large piece of flat live rock that sits vertically in the back of the aquarium. By detaching it and then moving the original colony to a different spot, I've been able to "naturally frag" this gorg multiple times in the aquarium.

no, it's a weed. one of the fastest growing corals of any type I've ever kept.

I'll try and get some more pix of this gorg. It looks totally different when it's polyps are open and when they're closed.
I used to have it in some REALLY heavy water flow and I know it's going to do better where it's placed in my aquarium right now.

This gorg does pretty well in my aquarium in medium flow. It is pretty easy to frag and attaches to rubble pretty well.

Note the small pieces attached to the rock behind the colony. If it lays on a rock for more than a week, it will attach and leave behind small pieces. These will grow and are pretty hardy. This gorgonian will also accept fish food. It is pretty cool to watch it eat.

Nice! Kat gave me a frag of a gorg like that at the ARC swap earlier this year. I suspect that it was a piece that she got from you, since she mentioned some green monti from your system.

It's a nice piece. It seems to like any spot in the tank and has easily doubled in size in the last couple of months.

The one you have from me is from a TREE that I grew out from a teenie frag that I picked up from TRS. It was one of the first corals in the 55g. It has survived two crashes. It's one of those corals that makes me not give up.....ever.
