Amazon Pets JBJ Group Buy

And don't forget, JBJ makes the NanoCube as well. They have some packages that include either a 70W or 150W HQI as well!!!

For example
12G NanoCube with a 70W HQI- $215.99
24G NanoCube with 150W HQI- $256.49

not to kill the mood or anything but you know the JBJ stuff have been known to cause fires. Not to mention they're made poorly. They had to recall a lot of their nano-cubes cuz of wiring and stuff. JMHO that's all.

Yeah, I realize that. But I am pretty sure that a lot of their stuff is now UL listed, unlike before.

Also, I remember reading more about Jebo and Odysea lights than JBJ. Could you direct us to some threads about JBJ related fires? I searched but wasn't able to find anything?

read the UL listed sticker carefully, if i remember correctly, its UL listed components, unless they've changed. There was a recent fire in a reef thread i'll try to look for that one. And as far as Jebo and Odyssea, they're essentially the same. Same distributor also. If anyone has ever been to Aqua Traders in San Bruno, that's basically a hub for all 3 of those products. Stay away from their tanks for sure. But i'm off to work again, so i'll try to find those posts later this evening.

I havent really heard anything bad about thier chillers. In fact, know a few poeple that have used them for years.

But as for naocubes and lighting, I definatly wasnt happy with them. My first JBJ product was a 4x55w PC lighting. The fans died in a months and the ballast was dead after the first year. My Jebo 2x96w PCs that I use for my FW tank has been running fine for 2 years. But I have heard they have made improvments to thier lights.

Also, I had not 1, but 2 JBJ 24g nanocubes crack on me. Each was perfectly level and each lasted 4-8 months before cracking, so they were fully stocked.

I do have a 12g nanocube as well though that has been fine for 2 years.

Yeah, I too have heard bad things about the nanocubes, but never anything bad about the chillers. It seems like refridgerant systems in general are pretty sound. And i was told by Ken that all the chillers are fully UL listed now, which always helps with peace of mind.

So is anyone interested? Or am I wasting my time with this whole thing? I'm going to try out a chiller w/ or w/o this group buy. But of course i would like to get it for a bit less than normal so I'm willing to wait if others want in.

I'll go ahead and put a cut off date of 4-8-07. That should give people enough time to sort things out and make a final decision!

The prices are pretty good. Not amazing, but about 10% less than marinedepot. The big advantage is no shipping charges. Thats like another $50 you're saving. If I needed one, it would be a good deal. Esecially after what happened to everybody last year. Better to spend $500 than lost thousands worth of rare corals.

so if i bought the one rated for a 40 gallon would it help keep the temp down at all? i have a 75 gallon tank+ 20 gallon sump.

It would seemingly cool it a bit, but I imagine it would be running almost constantly. Over time the added cost of it running so much might be more than the initial cost of buying a bigger chiller. Also a smaller unit might have a shorter life if it is being run all the time.

k nevermind i can't find them. but if you do a search for jbj stuff, the general consensus is negative. if you ever go to Aquatraders, you can see their piles and piles of repari equipment, and faulty stuff. they're just poorly made. i'd just excercise caution when it comes to the chiller. and if and when you do get your product, check the sticker for UL listed or UL listed components. they're just sub-par thats all. good luck.

I still don't see the correlation between aquatraders and JBJ. JBJ has their own R&D dept (they just don't buy other's designs), and the chillers are fully UL listed (i confirmed this afternoon). I spend about an hour searching the net for bad JBJ chiller stories and I was only able to find one. In that one story it was never confirmed that the chiller caught fire or there was a small leak or something that caused it.

If you are talking about aquatraders, I would have to imagine you are thinking of Jebo and not JBJ.

Thats sorta what i have been trying to convey. Hopefully that didn't scare anyone off.

what size of chiller do¢Ã"”need for a 140 tank and can the chiller be safely placed outside of house without shield or anything.

JBJ, Jebo, and odessea are all essentially the same. cheap sub-standard equipment. there's no denying that. and there was a thread on RC where the chiller is/was a cause of a fire. Whatever the case maybe, there is an inherent risk to buying these cheap products, be the lights or chillers, where there is a general concensus that they're not that good. I've seen and dealt with a lot of these, most defects are quickly replaced by the manufacturer/distributor because its cheaper to replace it than fix it. And i just thought i had a responsiblity to inform you what i know of the brand and its various forms. By all means buy whatever you want, if it works out well, then great. I'm just saying don't be surprised or upset. I just didn't want to read about a reefer injured/loss of livestock/etc etc is all. But like i said, if it works out well then great for you.

KuanTi, you're absolutely right! They are subpar, I guess if you're into the mercedes benz's of the chiller side, but it doesn't seem like there are anything bad about these chillers, in fact, there are a lot of RC members using them! JBJ and Oddysey are two totally different brands and they do not come from the same manufactures from China. So, I myself will never buy Oddysey cause from personal experience, they are like the daewoo of cars, I like toyotas and hondas if you get my drift, not an overpriced european car that actually will give me more headache. Maybe you're just a chiller snob! haha no offense. Sign me up for a 1 horse commercial chiller with the 230 volts

Like I said. toyota~Lexus Honda~Acura..........solid vehicles bro

these chillers/manufacturers can in no way, shape or form be considered honda's or toyotas. All three brands combined have a horrible track record when it comes to quality and reliablity. JBJ and Odyssea may very well be different brands, but they're made the cheap ways. If they were the toyota's of chillers and/or products they would be readily recommended by many people. whatever the case may be i'm not attacking anyone's choice for the product. I'm just vehemently against their proliferation. They've seem to creep their way into the market and there are not a lot of people who know that they suck. Especially those who buy them off ebay.

If there are any links regarding the jbj chillers (and how they are made cheap?) I would like to read them.

thank you

Kuan, please do your research instead of just repeating garbage that you have read. Just because you see it online does not make it true. And especially when you can not even find anything to back up your claims. Jebo and oddysea come from the same manufacturer. And even they have some products that are good and many that arent. Just because things are made in China, it does not mean its junk. If it is, you might as well throw away 50% of everyone's belongings.

JBJ is not made in the same factory. Granted JBJ is not perfect, in regards to anything other than thier PC units, JBJ does have good products. They make good 12g nanos, chillers, regulators, viper units, and ATO units.
