When I feed green pellets...I get green poop and green skim (makes sense, eh?)
After feeding green pellets for a month or so, I switched to red pellets. Fish pooped red in less than 5 hours.
This says to me that fish pass food through their digestive systems extremely rapidly. I've observed this on a variety of fishes, although I'm sure it varies by species. My fish are Naso tangs, acanthuras tangs, wrasses, blue throat trigger and angels (both dwarf and true angels).
Just an observation that supports that fish should generally be fed quite often.
