An unfortunate thread

An unfortunate thread - because it is my first, and not how I had envisioned it.

As a student I live in a house with other young cowboys like myself. Yet none share my passion for aquaria...

Basically, I left tonight for a few hours and upon arriving home found my live rock half exposed to the air as my water level in my 10G dropped to around 50%.

I added a maxijet400 this afternoon however nothing else has changed. Salinity and temperature remained nearly the same in the reduced water level tank. The maxijet was sucking air only when I came to the rescue.

-As i could find no trace of water on the floor/desk, is there any way extra flow and surface turbulence could have accounted for 5g of evap. in a matter of hours? (I think not, or else my salinity would be throught he roof)

- Will my exposed rock of ~4 hours have to re-cycle? and thus destroy my livestock?

ahh. This post may seem erratic. I think I have been sabotaged.

unless the water leaked out onto the floor, or you have about a million watts pumping light into your tank, i think the only answer is that you were sabotaged. your salinity would also be through the roof if it had evaporated, so someone had to have removed the water.

was the rock totally dry when you got back? if so it might have to recycle, but depending on how much there is i dont think it would harm your livestock too much, as long as you have a good skimmer.

time to mix up some new salt water and get it back in there...

...oh, and call a house meeting and kick someones... well you get the point.

That's what I thought.

The tank is fine it didn't leak, there is no wetness or salt residue anywhere.... crazy idiots.

who the hell steals salt water?!

I would personally kick the c r a p outta someone until the real person admitted it. That is really one messed up thing to do. I am actually sitting here stewing about it. Damn fools

not a frat house..... but i have 2 new exhange students here. They moved in on the weekend. We had a little party last night, about 20 or so people, but all good friends....

I'm definately hunting around. Maybe i'll pick up a mantis shrimp and use him as an enforcer.

take all the live stock out of your tank and put just a couple pieces of live rock in the tank or something that looks like live rock in the tank. Run some electricity through it and you'll find your culprit next time they go in your tank.

i'm just kidding of course

Restratplayer and foresteronw, thats hilarious. I especially like the electricity. You can entice them with an unopened Corona on the sand... haha :D

Electrified reef tank with a Corona on the bottom....

Would make a great beer commercial!!  Maybe we could make a new Man Law out of it!
