Anampses Feminus

I love this wrasse. It's been on my wish list for a long while. But I've never seen one in a lfs except for in a display tank.

How hardy are these wrasses? Are they delicate like leopard wrasses? Or hardy like coris and radiant wrasses?

No, they are similar to leopard wrasses. They need a reef tank with lots of copepods, multiple feedings, and gentle inhabitants.

I never realized they get that big.

Actually, Anampses do get sizable. My largest female A. meleagrides was about 8". I gave her away when I moved years ago (kicking myself now of course). We also see them come thru in the 5-6" range; typically around Sept.

They are gorgeous! The DD quick facts thing says 72-78*F so cooler than most reef tanks. Never knew they got that big either aquaph8.

I am keeping my tank temp between 74-77 now and she is doing fantastic. Gets along with all of my other fish and eats like a horse.

I am getting one next week I am still thinking of a way to properly quarantine it
What methods are you guys using

WE've had lots of lennardi come through from western australia, so that could be were they are coming from. I went to two lfs in one weekend one had about 10 the other about 20 of them.

Where are you located? And over how long a period of time have you been seeing them? I'm wondering if this is a similar event to the ton of Goldflakes that showed up this fall...

Gorgeous Brad. Details please. Where did you get her, what do you feed her, did you quarantine?

Thank you Steve.

I got her about three weeks ago when Liveaquaria Divers Den put her out on the block.
I had a hard time pressing the buy button since it was so expensive, but in the long run, I don't think I would buy another, unless it came from DD.
Anampses wrasses are so stressed when it comes to shipping, but when I received this beautiful gal from DD it was in a very large box and I kid you not, the lone fish was packed in about 6 gallons of water. I opened it up and it was quadruple layared with the largest packing bags I had ever seen.

She was not stressed at all and when I added her straight to the DT, she stayed out for about 2 hrs and seemed right at home before she went to bed for the night.
Next morning, she was out hunting for food. And has done the same everyday now for about 3 weeks.
She is eating enriched brine, hikari mysis, marine cuisine, pe mysis with gusto.

Although they are very expensive, they are worth it coming from DD.
I already heard an account of a guy buying one from an LFS a month ago for quite a bit less, but only made it a few days. He had been pm'ing me for quite some time, before and after. It's such a shame.
