and so the day has come

I like the description that says the fish is damaged due to fighting. For that kind of money maybe he could have gotten some extra tanks to better isolate.

@ Saltwaternooby, I know clownfish breeding is labor intensive, but how expensive is it? He says he has been working on this for 3 years. Is that 10k going to make him a killing or break even?

Well the way I have been doing it it is not expensive, on my 100g grow out I use around 2 bags of salt for water changes a month, and their starter foods I still haven't gone through all of it.

My thoughts are only if he is able to be the 1st/2nd to produce more offspring to sell for a higher price. But I imagine he/she is an accomplished breeder to be spending that kind of money, will probably yield a 80-90% larva to adult rate. With 10 to 20% of the lighting pattern, could easily pay for the upfront costs as long as he is the 1st to get there. If it were me I would buy the ones with the thin bars for 1/10 the price but they will produce the same offspring.

OK, the way I see it - fate, Karma, Murphy's law...

Who ever buys those fish puts them together, they don't say they are bonded or even a proven pair.

Either, same sex, don't like each other and female kills the other, or try to find some other fish that will take to them. Way too much of a gamble :).

Correct at a very low price, reason why my b grade picassos produce platinums and a grades.

Tina they are juvenile and are both males at this point.

There's more information on this project at: lightning {dash} maroon {dash} clownfish {dot} com. Interesting to note he comments on the bulldog appearance. He mentions maroon clown fighting at an early age increase the chances of bulldog faces. I think there's also a maroon clown with a blue tail stripe out there iirc. Could pose some interesting genetic anomalies if combined with lightnings...

I just finished cruising that site also. I've always thought the gold bar maroons with the bright orange outline were so cool looking. If they weren't so darn mean!
