And we have Ocellaris Babies!!

Here's the babies.... the bigger ones have grown a little past the 1/2 inch mark, and are starting to get black on the tips of their tails. Check out the guy with no middle stripe yet! There's 15 total in the 5 gallon tank, and my maintenance is cleaning the bottom every night, removing/replacing 4 gallons of water, and rinsing out the sponge filter. It's become routine, but it would sure be easier if I had a breeding setup with my tanks all plumbed together :bounce3: I have permission from my hubby to modify my laundry room setup :D

The babies were supposed to have some siblings hatch out last night. The parents (in my friend's tank 10 miles away) didn't lay on the tile AGAIN, so I had planned to try to catch the babies (even though I have had 0 success so far transporting larvae). Call me a wimp, but this is mostly what kept me from collecting them...

Absolutely insane.

In the meantime, I'm still trying to coax my own pair to spawn..... I'm ready to pull them out of my DT and give them their own tank in a more secluded part of the house (where 5 children aren't running past every few minutes) :)

Now that's cold....it's a 100 degrees warmer here today!

I finally had a clutch of eggs hatch last night. Don't know if they will survive as it's their third time. Alaska, thanks for this thread, it has been a wealth of information for me.

Scott, I'm glad you've gotten some helpful info on this thread - I know it's been helpful for me!! I so appreciate the input I've received when I have questions or when I could be doing something different/better.

Hope you soon have the joy of some surviving fry :)

As a PHX resident i would echo what billsreef said and get that thermometer fixed pronto. No way that can be right!

Good thred, thanks for documenting your efforts. It has inspired me to do a "grow up" thred with my next hatch of keeper fry. I have had really good luck with my first hatch of True Percs and am at day 14 with about 50 fry coming out the other side of meta. This wouldn't have been do-able without people sharing their experience like you did. Thanks!

4 months old this week!! These pictures are a couple weeks outdated.

Time for a long-overdue update..... and a request for some good advice!
I think the most important lesson I've learned is to make sure that there are ABSOLUTELY NO holes or cracks whatsoever in the lid.... I lost my favorite clown, the one with only two stripes :( because he jumped through a little space in the lid meant for a filter.

I also had one die after he bloated badly and wouldn't un-swell - never could figure that one out.

Now I have 13 babies. The tank maintenance required for the five gallon with my puny sponge filter is a daily WC of 2-3 gallons.

Here's my problems:
They are old enough/big enough to find new homes, but it looks like that will take a while.
So in the meantime, they are still in a five gallon tank. I've put a floating breeder box in the tank where I separate 1 or 2 of them periodically when they are being picked on and start to not look so great.

How long can I keep these babies together before they kill each other off? Should I put them in a bigger tank? I have a 10 gallon, a 20 gallon, a 38 gallon..... I'm looking for a way to be able to decrease a bit of the daily tank maintenance and the aggression - or is it possible?

I appreciate any advice you can give!!

sweet read! read it from day one! you've inspired me. I really want to take this hobby to the next level! thanks for all the helpful information you've posted and especially your last post. Great job!
