Calcium Reactor Leak Repair

Calcium Reactor Leak Repair

Used Weld On 16 after grinding off the old stock sealant with a dremel and grinding attachment:

Taped off the area around the glue line:

Applied a generous amount of Weld On around the outside of the cylinder as well as up and to the top edge of the fitting:

If it still leaks after this then I will make my own larger reactor... :hmm5:

Next step is lighting up these new tanks...and getting the Ca rector back online...

Is your quarantine tank plumbed to your water change tanks or am I not understanding the pictures correctly? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of quarantining?

KBzreef - thanks! I love building this crazy stuff!

SUPPOReefer - - good question... The plumbing for the two new tanks passes behind the water change barrel and the flow through barrel. The quarantine tank is the 45 cube that is closest to the electrical panel. It can be isolated on its own seperate system or connected to the main system with the turn of a few valves. This way I can use it for a few different functions depending on the need at the time. Thanks for asking.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I was sure with as much time as you have put into your system that there was thought put into it. Just couldn't tell from the pictures.

SUPPOReefer - The tanks are rocking and functioning as planned. The quarantine tank will get a lot of use on its own away from the main system. I am already looking for parts for it to stand on it's own.

B1N4RY - Thanks for checking it out...It has been a totally fun project with a challenge around every corner. :strange:

Plans for this weekend...

Plans for this weekend...

My wonderful wife gave me the green light to play some fish the weekend so I will be doing the following to take the system one step further...

Calibrate Ph probes
Clean UV and replace the bulb
Clean Tank Panels
Clean Skimmer
Put remaining corals from the sand on the reefscape
Move frags from temporary frag tank to new grow out tank
Mount lights over the two 45 gallon cubes
Clean and scrub live rock from the 150 gallon and prep it for the 750 sump

Make a run with my fish buddies to some local stores to check out the action

My brother and I shared a room growing up and we each had aquariums on our dressers. Our tanks grew over the years and so did our budgets. Here is a quick look at my brothers set up in Indiana.

I noticed that your brother has a Sohal tang with several other tangs. I am getting ready set up my 10 foot long 300 Gallon, however I am not sure if I am going to bring my sohal into it. I have a purple and sailfin tang as well.

Does your brother have any issues with his Sohal creating a very stressfull environment in his tank.

I posted a thread about it here to get feedback from others.

Awesome setup. I have a quick question for you ... I have the same calcium reactor setup and was wondering what you used for your PH probe holder. Yours is such a cleaner install than anything I have ever come up with and would like to change mine out to something similiar to hold my PH probe.

Thanks - Scott

dotcommer- I reached out to my brother to get his fish line up in his 225...I'll let you know when I hear back from him today...

ScottMcN1- I'll grab a shot of it for you when I get home...have you ever had a problem with your reactor leaking? Now the main chamber bottom fitting is leaking on me... :-(

My brother said that his Sohal rules the tank. The Sohal does make the environment in the 225 stressful. Most of his livestock has been in that system for a few years so they have established a pecking order that works for them.

Thanks for posting the new vid. Love seeing your tank. Also thanks for talking with your brother about his SoHal. I noticed that you have a Clown Tang how does he get along with your other tangs. I see that he is smaller, but still curious on how he acts.

I love the yellow belly hippo's There coloring looks great.

dotcommer- I love the videos as well...they remind me of the progress of the system. Thanks for checking it out.

I traded my large Sohal tang out for the smaller Clown tang and love it! I have had 4 Sohals in the past in different systems but have only had success with 2 Clown tangs. The first I got as a baby and kept him for about 2 months in a tank buy himself. He then stopped eating and passed. This one I babied in the 150 frag tank for two months before moving him to the 750. His behavior reminds me of the Sohal almost exactly. He chases the whitetail tang all over but not enough to worry about either fish. He is constantly on the move and almost impossible to get a good photo of...that yellow belly tang is the last bull in the acro/china shop! He is always breaking acro branches off the corals but I really like him so he stays...
